To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, THEODORE D. LANCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Miners Candlesticks, of which the following is a specification.

An object of the invention is to provide a candlestick for use by miners or other persons who work in mines or tunnels.

The invention embodies, among other features, a candlestick which is particularly adapted for use by miners in that it not only provides a means for supporting a candle or other illuminant member but also provides a structure which can be readily sup ported in a convenient position and which includes a crimping device and fuse cutter, whereby the cap of a fuse to be used in blasting can be crimped on the device and the fuse readily out to the desired length.

In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the candlestick, the dotted lines indicating the open position of the hook; Fig. 2 is a plan view; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 4.1 in Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose a candlestick 10 consisting of a curved handle 11 including an integral shank 12 formed with the handle 11, with a portion of the shank struck horizontally therefrom to provide a ledge 13, it being understood that the handle and shank are preferably formed of a single piece of material, preferably metal, a portion of the said handle being cut away to provide a seat 14% for a purpose that will be hereinafter more fully disclosed. A supporting bar 15 is pointed at one end and has the other end thereof reposing on the ledge 13, the said supporting bar being riveted to the inner end of the handle adjacent the shank 12 and to the free end of the said handle so that the inner end of the supporting bar will lie between portions of the handle as shown.

is adapted to extend vertically to the bar 15 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and when 1n closed position being adapted to repose on the seat 14% so that the upper edge of the hook will lie flush with the upper edge of the handle, thus preventing persons using the device from being stuck by the pointed end of the hook when the same is not in use, it being understood that the supporting bar and hook are both provided for the purpose of supporting a candlestick on the side of a wall or suspending the same from a ceiling or nail in the wall.

A candle holder 18 is formed on the free end of the shank 12 by bending an enlarged portion of the shank to form a loop adapted to receive a candle therein, it being understood that the candle holder is. of a spring like nature so as to rigidly grip a candle which is placed therein. Riveted to or formed with the supporting bar 15 is a blade 19 having an inclined cutting edge 20, this blade being provided for the purpose of permitting a miner or other person to readily cut a fuse to the desired length when used in blasting.

The medial portion or body of the hook 17 is curved to provide a semi-circular recess 21 in the under side thereof and, similarly, the inner end of the supporting bar 15 is provided with a semicircular recess 22, and crimping screws 23 are threadedly car ried on the curved portion of the hook 17 and the supporting bar 15 so that the pointed ends of the screws will project into the recesses 21, 22 as shown.

It will now be apparent that when it is desired to out a piece of fuse to the desired length for blasting and crimp the same with the usual concave cap, the fuse is first cut oft by applying the same to the cutting edge 20 of the blade 19, after which the cap is placed on the fuse and the fuse is then interposed between the supporting bar 15 and hook 16, to lie in the recesses 21, 22 so that when a downward pressure is exerted on the hook the pointed edges of the crimping screws 23 will engage the cap and press portions thereof into the fuse, thus crimping the cap on the fuse.

Heretofore, miners candlesticks have been invariably made by securing or pressing together separate and distinct pieces of material, each of the said pieces of material necessitating a separate and distinct method of manufacture. In my device, I aim to provide a candlestick in which the handle, the shank, the ledge carrying the support ing bar and the candle holder are all formed of a single piece of material stamped or pressed into the desired shape, thus presenting an article which can be more cheaply manufactured to accomplish the desired result. It will be understood that the supporting bar 15 can be riveted or pressed to the handle and it will be further understood that the hook I? is preferably formed of a single piece of material, the said hook being so arranged as to form a part of the handle when in an inoperative position, as mentioned heretofore.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

In a Ininers candlestick the combinationv with a curved handle, of an integral shank formed by one end of the handle, a horizontal ledge formed with said shank and projecting from one side thereof, a supporting bar having its inner end lying upon said ledge and rigidly secured to said shank at the forward and rear ends of said shank 25 THEODORE D.
