Description

J. A. HOEGGER A()Ct. 2
. BOTTLE OPENER Filed Nov. 8l 1932 A TORNEYS Patented Oct. 2, 1934 UNETED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates in general to wall fixtures and more particularly to improvements in wall bottle cap and cork removers.
An Object of the invention is to provide an or- 5 namental xture of unitary construction to include a supporting wall plate, a bottle cap remover and a guard for receiving a pivoted corkscrew and for substantiallyY housing the same when not in use. In this manner it, is intended to improve the appearance of the fixture and increase the strength thereof and at the same time reduce the cost of production.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bottle cap remover having an open face so as to be conveniently engaged by a bottle cap and which is provided with a removable ilange extending into the opening so that it may be formed of relatively stronger material and have a sharp engaging edge, thus lessening the possibility of breakage and insuring the'proper engagement of the bottle cap and also making it possible to replace the same without substituting a complete new xture.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the combination of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter set forth in the following description and appended claims, certain embodiments thereof being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a xture;
Figure 2 is a View in vertical section taken along line 2--2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 isa view in cross section taken along line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, it will be seen that there is provided a unitary construction comprising a wall plate 1 with screw holes 2 and 3 to receive screws 4 and 5 by means of which the nxture is attached to the wall 6. The upper portion of the wall plate vextends upwardly and forwardly and is enlarged at '7, so as to be provided with an opening 8. Secured to this 5 upper portion by means of screws or rivets 9 and 10 is a flange 11 which is preferably provided with a knife edge 12 extending into the opening 8. This arrangement makes it convenient for receiving the cap of a bottle and a slight application of pressure diagonally downward and forward on the bottle results in the removal of the cap by its engagement with the flange 11. The wall plate 1 is also provided with integral flanges 13 and 14 of appreciable depth at the 65 sides and these flanges are continuous, even throughout the enlarged head portion of the fixture, as indicated at 15. Flanges 13 and 14 are aperturecl so as to receive a pivotal member 16 which is carried by a stud 17 extending through the side walls of the flanges 13 and 14. The pivview in front elevation of the otal member 16 is formed so as to have a hook portion 18, which may be used for hanging articles thereon when the corkscrew is not' in use. .The pivotal member 16 is also provided with side portions 19 and 20 which act as bearing members so as to provide for proper alignment thereof during its pivotal movements. The pivotal member 16 is further adapted to receive in secured relation a corkscrew 21, the distribution of the weight being such that it will assume the position shown in Figure 2 whenever it is released so that the corkscrew will lie against the wall plate and not protrude above the level of the anges 13 and 14 or below the wall plate. There is no danger therefore of injury, due to inadvertent engagement of the corkscrew. When it is desired to make use of the corkscrew a simple application of pressure on the hook portion 18 results in the removal of the' corkscrew from the channel frame and the hook also acts as a means of limiting the pivotal movement as it contacts with the wall plate. The predetermined limit is such that the corkscrew will at that time assume the most convenient angle for removing the cork, approximately forty-live degrees. In other words, this angle is the most convenient for the person to hold the bottle and to pull on, after the corkscrew has been embedded in the cork, so as to remove the cork.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the fixture is ornamental in appearance and rugged in construction, and because of its unitary construction, cheaply manufactured. It will also be seen that the fixture includes a number of useful tools which are fool-proof and efficient in their operation, and that the fixture may be used as a bottle Openena corkscrew and a hanger.
I claim:
1. A Wall fixture comprising a single channel frame wall plate with side walls with an enlarged extension extending obliquely upwardly and forwardly with an opening to receive bottle caps for removing same, a separate ilange secured to the enlarged extension and adapted to protrude into the upper portion of said opening.
2. A wall fixture comprising a single channel frame wall plate with side walls,-with an enlarged extension alsoI channeled extending obliquely upwardly and forwardly with a single opening adapted to receive bottle caps for removing the same from bottles, to which they are attached, by means of an oblique downward pressure on the bottle, said enlarged extension having a separate flange secured thereto so as to protrude into the upper portion of said opening, said flange being provided with a cap engaging edge Of substantially lesser thickness than the remainder of the flange.
