WINDOW-BLIND CATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM N. BUTTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Provldence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Endowlilind Catches, of which the followlng 1s a at'on.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a catch which is formed of wire; to generally improve the efficiency of the structure; to simplify the same, and to reduce the nnumber of parts in a two catch structure to a minimum.
Further, the invention aims to provide a structure in which the catches are formed of wire and in which the latter itself acts to tension the catches so as to positively hold same in their locked positions.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a blind showing the present invention applied thereto and in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the invention. Fig. 3 is a section, enlarged and taken on the line 3-3 of F g. 2, and Fig. 4 is a similar v1ew on the line 4-4: of Fig. 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a housing or caslng is employed formed of a section of sheet metal folded and bent to have parallel sides 1-1, a top 2, bottom 3, and right angular fastening ears 4 by means of which the casing 1s fastened to the blind B.
The sides 11 of the casing are vertically slotted at 5 in which a link 6 is mounted and held against horizontal movement, but permitted vertical, sliding movement. The catches are, as above stated, formed of wire and are bent to have a hook or catch proper 7 which extends out from the casing. Each catch has an end 8 which bears against the top 2 and thereby acts to tension the catch and has its other end turned outwardly to form a retaining stud 9, the latter extendllltlll in- 1 i i WWh tillEuand?! 11i ing through openings provided therefor in the opposite ends of one of the sides 1, of the casing. Each catch further has a part 11, located intermediate the ends thereof, which parts 11 are received in the link 6. The link 6 acts as a coupling for the two catches, allowing one to operate without affecting the other, and still when the other is operated to positively cause both to operate 1n unison, which operation will be apfrom Fig. 2 in which it will be noted frthe catch on the right is raised,
it will, due to its part 11 engaging the up:
per end of coupling 6 also raise the catch on the left, since the part 11 of the left catch is engaged with the lower end of the coupling, consequently the upward movement of the latter caused by the right catch also moves coupling 6 upwardly thereby raising the left catch. However, when the left catch is raised, it will not affect the right catch, since the part 11 of the left catch idles or moves up through the coupling 6 without moving the latter in any way.
It will thus be seen from the above that the catch which is on the outside of the blind and which is adapted to engage with a keeper on the wall of the house to lock the blind in open position, will be operated to open when the catch which is on the inside of the blind and accessible to the person operating the blind, is actuated and that when the catch on the outside of the blind is operated when the blind is closed, the catch on the inside of the blind will not be affected in any way, thus making it impossible for a person on the outside to open the blind by operation of the catch on the outside.
It will further be seen that the entire structure consists of but four parts which individually are of simple construction and moreover can be easily and quickly assembled.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a blind catch, a casing, a pair 01 catches movably connected to the casing, and having spaced adjacent portions and means inclosing said portions and having parts engaged therewith whereby when one catch is raised the other will be raised therewith and when the other catch is raised said portion thereof within the means will idle in the latter.
2. In a blind catch, a casing, a pair of catches pivoted to the casing so as to have their pivotal points spaced longitudinally of the casing, and coupling means for the latches extending transversely across the space between said pivotal'points.
3. In a blind catch, a casing, a pair of catches pivotally connected to the casing, slidable coupling means in the casing for engaging the pivoted ends of the catches, and guiding means carried by the casing and movably engaged with the coupling means to prevent longitudinal movement of the coupling means relative to the casing.
4. In a blind catch, a casing having slots in its side walls, catches pivotally connected to the casing, and coupling means for the pivoted ends of the catches whereby one catch may be operated independently of the other, said coupling means being slidably associated with'the slots of the casing.
5. In a blind 'catch, a casing having slots formed in its side walls, catches having their inner ends pivotally connected to the side wallsof the casing, a link slidably engaged in said slots and encircling and engaging the inner ends of the catches adjacent their Copies of this patent ma be obtained for pivotal connection with the casing, whereby when one catch is operated the other 1s operated therewith, and when said other catch is operated the first named catch will remain stationary.
6. In combination with a pair of pivoted catches having adjacent superposed parts, a
link receiving said parts and engaged at its ends with same whereby when the latch which engages the upper end of the link is raised the latter will raise the other latch 'therewith, and whereby when the last named latch is raised the part thereof within the link will idle in the latter.
7. In combination with a pair of movablecatches, coupling means for said catches independent thereof and engaged with each to allow one catch when raised to raise the five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents Washington, D. G.
