To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E. Wrnoox, a citizen of the United States, 'residing at Mechanicsburg, in the county of Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hanger-Bars and Body-Loops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is the provision of improved and relatively cheap and eflicient means for supporting the end 0f a vehicle body upon a spring or the like, sa1d means comprising a metallic hanger bar of specific construction and body loops of particular formation, which, when united and secured to a spring and to a body, will transmit the weight of the latter in a vertical plane to the spring and maintain rigid connections between the ends of the hanger bar and the ends of the body loops under all conditions of service.
The invention consists in certain novelties of construction and combinations of parts as herein set forth and claimed.
The, accompanying drawing illustrates one complete example of the embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a front view in perspective of the hanger bar and perspective views of the body loops and clips. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of Fig. l as viewed from the opposite side. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the hanger bar and leaves of a spring ad acent to one of the clips which secure the bar to the spring.
Referring to the figures, the letter A designates the metallic hanger bar preferably forged to the shape desired so as to possess 4 great strength with a minimum weight of metal; B, a longitudinal recess in one face of the bar; C, a horizontal plate with its lower surface slightly curved; D, the vertical web of the bar; E, webs connecting the plate C and web D to stiffen the bar; F, holes for clips in web D located above the plate C, as shown; G G, holes through the ends of the bar with relatively large tapered openings; H H, body loops, each having one end fashioned to form a threaded bolt I with a tapered enlargement J to fit the tapered opening at the end of the hanger Specification of Letters Patent.

bar, the opposite end being constructed in a well known way; K, an elliptic spring; and L the clips with threaded prongs which unite the bar and spring, the unbent clips, as shown, being applied by passing the straight prongs through the holes F F and then bending them down parallel with the other prongs, and finally adjustingthe perforated yokesM and nuts. i
It will be observed that the hanger bar, being forged, is of a very strong and light construction; that it is attached directly to the top of the spring so the weight will be transmitted in a vertical plane, thus avoiding any leverage which would distort the parts; thatthe clips cannot shift or become detached; and that the front surface of the bar presents a smooth and ance to the eye.
The body loops, as shown, are very securely anchored to the ends of the bar, the tapered enlargements J J fitting within the enlarged tapered openings in the ends thereof and constituting bearing surfaces of large areas, so that when the nuts N are applied to the threaded ends of the bolts I the sidewise movements of the body and the accompanying strains cannot loosen the connections.
