DEVICE FOR PRINTING DIAGBAMS FOR TAILORS PATTERNS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1915.
Application filed March 16, 1914, SeriaINo. 825,105. Renewed December 17, 1914. Serial N 0. 877,807.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS ALFANO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Southington, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Printing Diagrams for Tailors Patterns; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying draw ings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent in- Figure l a top or plan view of a device for printing tailors diagrams constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 an underside view of the same. Fig. 8 a sectional view on the line ab of Fig. 1. Fig. 4: a sectional view on the line 0(Z of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 a broken sectional view indicating means for locking the operating lever. Fig. 6 a broken sectional view on an enlarged scale showing the end of one of the markers as indicated, with the frame. Fig. 7 indicates a diagram which may be printed with this device.
This invention relates to an improvement in devices for printing diagrams for tailors patterns. In laying out patterns for coats and vests, it is desirable to use a diagram consisting of horizontal and substantially vertical lines, the vertical lines varying with the different sizes to be out, these vertical lines, however, all having a relative position corresponding to certain fixed sizes.
The object ofthis invention is to provide a device by which these diagramlines may be printed, and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and par ticularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a frame 2 of suitable size the underface of which is provided with a strip or top line .3 and preferably with certain gages and scales 4, 5 and 6. Within the frame area series of vertical markers 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, the marker ll'being curved. These several markers are connected with a lever 12 which is pivoted at one end of the frame and exposed through the outer face thereof, the outer end of the lever being adapted to be engaged with a segmental scale 13 with which it may be locked by a pin 14: entering perforations 15 in the scale. The connection with the lever is made through couplingpieces 16 a separate piece being employed for each of the vertical markers. In addition the curved marker 11 is coupled at its upper end by a link 17 with a slide 18 moved by thelever 12. To lay out a diagram as indicated in Fig. 7 the lever 12 will be turned, for instance, as'shown in Fig. 1, to 38, which will give the dimensions for a coat or vest of 38 bust measure. This movement of the lever has moved'the vertical markers to the proper position. The edges of these markers are provided with strips 19 like the edge 3 of rubber or other suitable material which will hold ink which may be applied to them by a roller, or the device may be pressed upon a suitable pad whereby the edges of the vertical markers and the edge of the frame may receive a coating of ink. The device is then'placed upon a sheet of pattern paper and sufiicient pressure placed upon it to imprint upon the pattern paper the solid lines indicated in Fig. 7 and from which a pattern may be completed, the scales 4, 5 and 6 giving the pattern maker the points from which to strike the necessary lines. I thus provide a device which will give an accurate diagram for a large range of sizes.
I claim 1. A device for printing tailors diagrams several markers, and a segmental scale on the frame with which theouter end of the lever may be locked.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
