Description
D. 'RJ HARRIS, OF SOUTH NEW BERLIN, NEW YORK.
Lettersv Patent No, 113,049, dated March 28, 1871;` antedated March 16, 1871.
IMPRovEMEN-rm 'coAcH-PAINTER'S EAsELs.
The Schedule referred to in thelcLctters Patent:v and making part of the 5am..
Towhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, D. R. Hamers, of South New Berlin, Ohenaugo county, and `State of New York, have invented a new and usefulmachine, which I denominate a Universal Trestle for Holding Carriage or Buggy-Bodies, or the wheels of carriages and other articles, while undergoing finishing, repairing, or paintturning any side of the work to the light, or to 'a desired position for convenient appiicationof the tools in use, and especially to. present the surface being painted or varnished in -the most favorable position, and the followingjs a full and correct description of the same.
My invention consists in arranging upon one standard, that may be rm in the floor or otherwise, two right-audlleft joints, placed to operate at right angles to each other, so that, by the almost endless variety of adjustment of these two joints, almost any position of the article being wrought upon is secured.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus, with body of wagon-body attached. v
Figure 2, another side view, lying at right angles to the iirst.
Figure 3, same view as fig. 2, save that the upper joint is turned partially to the left. v
Figure 4, the reverse side of g. 3, andthe upper joint turned the opposite to the position in Iig. 3.
A A' A", main post or standard, with two joints, made by mortise'or slot and interlocking tenon C.
g The object of my'invention is to aiord facilities for B, the feet orstay-braces.
O, tenons;`tting into corresponding slots, as may be seen-in the drawings.
D, a metallic plate, through which and lthe tenon l Gand adjacent part of standard'A passes the pivot e, on which the parts above turn. y
g,a tightening-screw, passing through the circular slot h and into the wood at that part of the post A.
' I represents a buggy-body now on the trestle.
j, clamps, bywhich the articles to be wrought upon are held in place'.y l
k, frame or base upon which the superstructure stands.
l, link and staple, which may be used instead of the base k, yand would hold the testle to the floor of the yIt will readily be seen that, by the two joints illustrated in the drawings, any desired position of the work in hand can be obtained. The turning or tipi ping over laterally of parts of the post itself, as in figs. 3 and 4, gives adaptation to all forms of articles.
Whatl claim as of my invention, andV desire to secure by Letters Patent,'is
The standard, composed of the three parts A, A',-
and A", when arranged and combined with each other and the gauge-plates D, substantially as described and set forth.
, D. R. HARRIS. Witnesses:
