Description
ttirt giedre hated @ffice WILLIAM oEAELEs EDGE, 0E NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 113,031, dated March 28, 1871. i
IMPROVEMENT INDEVICES FOR PIERCING AND LINING EARS FOR THE RECEPTION O EAR-RINGS.
The Schedule referred to' in these Letters Patent and making part of the saine.
` To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM CHARLES EDGE, of Newark, in the county of Essexv and State of New Jersey, have invented anew and improved Device for Piercing and Lining Ear-'Lobes and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art lto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication.
Figure 1 represents'a side view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section, onl an exaggerated scale, of the same.
.Figure 3 is -a similar section ofthe same, showing it applied.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
The object of this invention is' to provide a device whereby ladies? ear-lobes can be readily perforated and the apertures lined, so that the same cannot grow up or be torn out.
Whenever at present the wearing of ear-rings is interrupted the perforations of the lobes will become closed and have to be renewed by painful vprocess to re-admjt the rings. The tearing of the lobes-by accidental strain on the rings is also not infrequent.
The principle of my invention consists `in piercing .will completely line thel perforated portion of the same.
The eyeletin the ear will thusalways constitute a convenient receptacle for the ear-rings, and, furthermore, also a constant metallic surface within the ear, which is -by many deemed benelcialto the eyes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, an eyeletvsbarpened at one end to pierce the lobe of the ear, and formed of soft metal, to allow its ends to be upset on each side ofthe ear, for the purpose of thus perforating and lining the cut surface by the same operation.
The above specilication of my invention signed by me this 29th day of November, 1870.
. WILLIAM CHARLES EDGE. Witnesses:
