IMPROVEMENT IN CLIPS FOR ATTACHING BUQKLES.

To all whom, it 11i/ty concern,.-
Beit known that we, STEPHEN G. STURGEs and WILLIAM E. STURGEs, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have made certain Improvements in Clips for Attaching Buckles, Rings, &c., to Straps; and we declare the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, to be a full and exact description thereof.
In the manner of securing the buckle, &c., to the strap without stitch, rivet, or doubling the end of the strap, in a quick economical way, equaling, if not excelling, other methods of securing and'holdiug, consists our alleged improvement.
NVith suitable dies, 'a blank ofthe form shown in Figure 2 is cut from thin sheet metal. The blank is doubled to the form shown in Fig. 3. The buckle or ring is placed in the bend, and by means of appropriate punches, the two lips a a are bent over the part b, which has previously been pressed down upon the strap c, that had been placed between the lips, the compression causing the teeth e to enter the strap a small distance from its edge on either side, theybeing rmly held therein byturning over and pressing down the lips c upon the piece b, giving the neat iinish shown in Fig. l.
