PORTABLE FENCE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1915.
Application le. October 19, 1914. Serial No. 867,363.
T0 all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HORVTH, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Fences, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in portable fences.
An object of the present invention is to provide a portable fence that may be easily set up in operative position and one which is extremely simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fence of the portable type in which the lower portion thereof is provided with a wire mesh while the upper portion embodies longitudinal strands of barbed wire with the supports for the barbed wire acting as connectors or fasteners for the sections of the lower portion.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood from the following description.
1n the accompanying drawings which show the preferred embodiment of the present invention, and to which reference is had herein by like characters designating corresponding p arts throughout the several views *igure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the fence set up in operative position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the joint of one of the posts, illustrating the manner of securing the same in the ground and the connection of the adjacent section at the upper end. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal sectional view of one of the section joints. Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of one end of one of the sections, and, Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view of one of the rails of the opposite end.
In describing the invention more fully in detail, the reference letter A designates in general each fence section and the following description of one section will embody the entire fence.
1n assembled form, the rails of the fence sections present rectangular frames, each section embodying a pair of horizontal rails 10 and 11 designating respectively lower and upper rails. The rails 10 and 11 are carried by theposts 12, which posts have ground-entering spikes 13 and carry horizontal disks 14 at the tops of said spikes to limit the posts 12 in entering the ground as indicated in Fig.
2. Each post is further supported by the turn-buckles 15 connected at one end as at 16 to the posts 12 and at their other ends as at17 to ground spikes. The upper end of each post 12 is provided with a socket 18 into which open the side apertures 19 while the lower end of said post adjacent the disk 14, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, is provided with a recess 2O having opening thereinto side apertures 21 similar to the apertures 19. Each end of the horizontal rails 10 and 11 is constructed as indicated in Fig. 5 with a reduced rectangular end 22, which end is provided with a vertical opening 23 and horizontal openings 24 communicating with the said opening 23.
In the assembled position as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the reduced rectangular ends 22 are received in the sockets 18 and 20 and 1n this position cotter pins, as indicated at 25 in Fig. 2, are passed through the registering openings 19 and 24 and 21 and 24 to hold the adjacent sections in assembled form. rThe upper end of each post 12 is provided with an axial elongated socket 26 which registers with the vertical opening 23 in the upper rail 11 and received in said registerf ing openings is a rod 27 provided with a plurality of spaced openings 28 as clearly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. The cotter pins 25 securing the upper ends of the rails to the upper ends of the posts are passed through the openings 28 in the rods 27 and these rods are adjusted as to height by moving up and down the said rods 27. A suitable wire mesh 29 is arranged between the adjacent posts 12 and the lower and upper rails 10 and 11 while suitable barbed wires 30 are supported on the rods 27 in any convenient manner.
It is believed from the above description of the invention that the operation thereof will be readily apparent and while 1 have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, l do not wish to be confined to the exact details of construction shown, as various forms, modifications and arrangements of the parts as shown may be had without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What 1 claim as new is A fence formed of a plurality of sections, each section comprising a post, upper and lower rails carried by the post, sockets in the outer end face of the upper and lower ends of the post, said post having alined transverse openings registering with said sockets, said rail ends having Vertical' open-V register When'the rail ends vare rjeoeived in said sockets, a rod mounted inthe Vertical ,registeringopenings; said rod having a plurality of spacedopenings therein', and a cross .v
vpin mounted in the registering transverse 'openings of the-post, rail ends, and rod.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
