DISPLAY-CAN.
Application filed August 20, 1913. Serial No. 78
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, Tiioaras M. CAMP- isnLL, a itizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Les Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Display-Can, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display cans which are used for holdin biscuits, crackers or other articles for sale, in such a way that the contents of the can may be readily seen by the customer, and the object of the invention is to provide a transparent panel in the can, with a detachable plate adapted to be secured to the can in front of the transparent opening, the said plate being provided, if desired, with ornamentation and iaving sight opening of fanciful design, if oesired. The removable plate may have its opening of such a size and relative location hat even though the contents of the can may have been somewhat reduced in quantity, the appearance of the contents as seen by a customer throu h the opening in the plate, will not show any empty space and it will thus present a much neater and more effective appearance than if the empty space in the from which the contents have een partially removed, were exposed to the customer s view.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 1s a perspective view of the can, showing the plate in a position partially removed from position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the can with the plate in normal position. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line ro -#0 Fig.2.
1 designates the can which may be of any preferred construction and provided in one side with a transparent panel 2.
3 designates a detachable plate which is provided with a sight opening 1-, the opening 4 being of any desired configuration and preferably of less area than the transparent panel so that when in normal position as in Fig. 2, the sight opening 4 of the plate 3 will not expose any unfilled portion of the box until a very considerable amounthas been removed from the box, and will thereby present a very neat and attractive appearance to the customer. This appearance may be enhanced by providing the plate 3 with some artistic design, if desired. The

sight opening a in the plate 8 is located near the lower part of the plate so that the plate 3 will act to obscure the uppermost portion of the can from which the contents are, of course, first removed.
The plate 8 may be detachably secured to the can in a variety of ways,-one of which I have shown herein, and consisting of a series of clips 5 which slidably engage the edges of the plate 3 to permit the same to be slid into or out of position. The clips 6 at the bottom of the can support the plate at the bottom.
What I claim is:
1. A display can having a transparent panel in one side thereof, and a detachable plate secured to that side of the can having the said transparent panel, the said detachable plate having a sight opening located near the bottom thereof, and registering with said transparent panel.
2. A. display can having a transparent side and a plate detachably secured over the panel, said plate having an irregularly shaped si opening wher by the upper portion of said plate partially covers the transparent panel and exposes the lower part of the transparent panel.
3. A display can provided with a transparent panel in one side thereof, a plate over the said side having the panel, said plate having a sight opening of less area than the said panel and located near the bottom of the plate so as to register with the lower portion of said transparent panel, and means for slidably supporting said plate on the can.
4. A display can provided with a transparent panel in one side thereof, a plate over the said side having the panel, said plate having a sight opening of less area than the said panel and located near the bot tom of the plate, and clips on the can slidably en aging the front face of the plate at the ct ge portions of said plate.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 8th day of August, 1913.
ALAN FRANKLIN, F. ALICE CRANDALL.
