AGITA'IOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented set. as, rain.
Application filed Apri123, 1913. Serial No. 763,117.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALoYsIUs S. BABEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waco, in the county ofMcLennan and fitate of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Agitators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in agitators and has relation more particularly, to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with Washing machines or the like, and the object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein an efi"ective agitation of liquid is created upon axial rotation being imparted to the agitator.
With the above objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention :ligure l is a fragmentary view illustrating in elevation an agitator constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the coacting parts of the machine, to which it is disclosed as applied, being illustrated in section; Fig. 2 is a view in top plan of the devlce as set forth in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through one of the blades as"'"herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 60 denotes a vertically disposed stem suitably mounted for axial rotation in the machine 18 herein disclosed as a dishwashing machine, said stem being adapted to be rotated in alternate directions in any conventional manner, although I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself in this respect.
58 denotes a disk fixed to the stem 60 and 57 indicates diametrically opposed blades secured to the disk and projectin beyond the periphery thereof, each of said blades being substantially V-shape in cross section and the side plates 5 of each of the blades being substantially L-shape in cross section, the inner marginal portions of the blades being provided with a depending extension 6 in contact with the disk 58 and having disposed therethrough suitable anchoring means 7 herein disclosed as conventional rivets.
Secured to the stem at a predetermined distance above the disk 58 is a bar 59, the extremities-whereof, as indicated at 8, being bifurcated as is disclosed particularly in ig. 2, to straddle the blades 57 adjacent the apices thereofand being connected therewith in any conventional manner, as indicated at 9. It will be observed that the stem 60 serves as a mounting common to both the disk 58 and the bar 59.
From the foregoing description it is believed to be obvious that an agitator constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by rea son of the convenience and facility with which it performs its several functions and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention inpractice except as defined by the appended claim.
- What is claimed, is
A device of the class described including an agitator comprising a rotatably supported disk, diametrically opposed blades secured to thedisk and projecting beyond the periphery thereof, each of said blades being substantially V-shape in cross section, the plates of each of the blades being substantially L-shape in cross section, the inner marginal portions of said blades being provided with depending extensions in contact with the disk, means engageable with the extensions for securing the blades to the disk,
2, bar rotatably-supported above'the disk and having its extremities engaged with the blades adjacent the apices thereof, and a mounting common to the disk and bar.
. In testunony whereof I hereunto affix my signature 1n the presence of two witnesses.
