Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIABLS. AULT, a citizen of the United States; residing at lVabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hinges, of which the following is a specification.-
The invention relates to hinges and more particularly to those adapted for use in connection with door frames to which are adapted to be connected or attached, any well known form of fiy screen, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and novel means whereby the .hinge proper can be conveniently and readily attached to or removed from the frame of the screen.
The invention embodies, among other fea-.-

Referring more particularly to the views. I provide a hinge 10 including a plurality of connected leaves 11, 12, and a bracket 13, the leaf 11 being connected by suitable screws to a door 14 and the said bracket connected by suitable screws to a door casing 15. Lateral cars 16 are struck from the leaf 11 and provided with apertures 17 and similarly, lateral cars 18 are struck from the leaf 12 and provided with apertures 19, the said leaves 11 and 12, when connected, being adapted to have the apertures 17 and 19 of the respective cars 16 and 18 register in order that a pintle 20 can be passed therethrough to pivotally connect the leaves, a helical spring 21 being arranged between the upper and lower ears 18 of the leaf 11 and encircling the pintle 20, with one end 22 of the spring abutting against the face of the leaf 11 and the other end 23 of the spring abutting against the face of the leaf 12, it being readily understood that the spring is provided for the purpose of exerting opposing pressure against the leaves a le circular casing 24 being 11 and 12, a suit arranged to encircle the spring 21, as shown. In order that the leaves 11 and 12 will normally lie in the same vertical plane so that the hinge proper can be applied to the f flatface of the door 14, a lateral rio 25 is struck rearwardly from the leaf 12 and is adzgpted to be engaged by an edge of the lea 11 soas to limit the rearward swinging movement of the leaf 11 with respect to the leaf 12 when acted upon by thfespring 21, as will be readily apparent. ferring to Fig. 2 that when the hinge proper is connected with the bracket 13, the flanges 31 will passthrough the slots 32 to secure the innerend of the bracket to the hinge proper, while the lugs 29 and 30 will be en gaged by the leaf 12 and ton e 26 thereof so that the hinge proper, wnencbnnected. with the bracket, will operate as a rigid structure. In order to lock the hinge proper on the bracket 13 a revolubfl'e key 3318 supported on the bracket 13 and when the leaf 1') of the hinge proper engages the bracket the shank 34 of the key will be received in the apl,
erture 28 formed at the inner end of the. slot 27, the said shank having been previously passed through the slot 27 so that the turning of the key 33 in the aperture 28 ill lock the leaf 12 to the bracket, the width the shank 34 being greater than the Width of the slot 27 and which width is presented toward the slot 'when the key is in locked positiom whereas when the key is turned into an unlocked position, the edge of the shank will he presented to slot and in consequence of the edge of the slot being wider than the edge of the shank, the said shank will readily pass through the slot when the hinge proper is disengaged from the bracket.
Now from the foregoing description and from the views it will be apparent that the hinge proper can be secured in a rigid position with respect to the bracket, that is, the leaf 12 of the hinge proper will be rigid relatively to the bracket and which is secured to the door casing, whereas the leaf 11 is secured to the door 14 so that the device, to all appearances, will appear as an ordinary 'nge. Now when it is desired to remove the door from the door casing it is only necessary to turn the key 33 into an unlocked position and then by pulling outwardly on the-door the leaf 12 will be disengaged from the bracket 13, thus entirely removing the door together with the hinge proper, from the door casing and the bracket carried thereby.
As mentioned heretofore, the device disclosed herein embodies ,various improve ments over ti iconstruction disclosed in my former patent and although I preferably form various parts of the present invention by stamping the same from material in blank, it will be understood that various changes can be made in the construction disclosed herein Without departing from the Spirit of the invention.

A hinge comprising pivotally connected leaves, a bracket for locking engagement with one of the leaves, a longitudinal rib struck from the said leaf and adapted'to be engaged by and form a stop member for the other leaf, and flanges projecting from the bracket and adapted to pass through apertures in the said -rib to support the first mentioned leaf on the bracket.
