- .sidingat let Via Digione, Milan, Italy, have invented new and useful Improvements in Watch-Casings; and I do hereby declare the following to :be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref- ,erence being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or fi res of reference marked thereon, which orm a part ,of this specification.

This invention has reference to.certain improvements in watch casings and it re latesmore specifically to a watch casing having ,two covers and a spring-ring, which connectsthe two casing parts together inclosing thereby the watch-work.

Two modes .of carrying the invention intoeffect are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is asection on the line AB of Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a section substantially corresponding to Fig. 1 showing one of the covers in its open position, Fig. 3 is a front view, partly in section of the watch, Fig. 4 shows a detail, Figs. 5 and 6 show details of ,a second modification, and Figs. 7 8 .and .9 sho.w details of a third modification.

1 denotes the watch-work provided with a projecting shaft 2. This shaft carries a crown 3 for windin up the watch-and adjusting the hands. he watch-Work is surrounded by a dust-ring 4 serving to hold said work in the casing.

5 and 6 denote two covers, the cover 6 being arranged on the same side as the watch-dial and carryingan inserted glass piece 7. Each of the covers 5 and 6 has a flange 8. These flanges are of such a shape that they can inclose in their closed position the watch work. In this case the flanges 8 touch each other. The covers 5 and 6 have projections 9 -forming in the closed position of the covers a pendant-like body surrounding the shaft 2.v Upon the shaft 2 is loosely mounted a body 10 having a cylindrical central part and tapering toward its ends. The projections 9 are pro-' vided with extensions 11 corresponding in shape to the body 10 and confining between them in the closed position of the covers an open space.

. 13 is a spring-ring provided with a groove 14 having the same width as the two adj oining flanges 8. This ring 13 is further proded atlts upper end with a circular openng 15 .(Fig. 4) through which passes the sleeve formed by the projections 9, said ring being spl t at this place. If the covers 5 and 6 are in their closed position, the springring 13 keeps them in said position, after the latter isput around the flanges 8.

16 denotes caps pressing the parts 11 against the body 10.- The caps 16 are held by the stirru 17 in the proper position relatively to t e parts 11.

For the purpose of opening the casing formed by the covers .5, -6 the spring-ring 13 is detached from said covers. Hereupon the covers are moved apart, ortheymay be opened, as illustrated in Fig. 2, only one srsver, the ,cover 5 pivots around the .body figures the crown 3 is arranged inside the stirrup 17. As shown in Figs. 5 and .6 the crown may, however, as well be arranged below the stirrup 17. According to. this modification theupper part of each projection 9 is ring-shaped and to these projections 9 are rigidly connected the parts 11 corresponding in shape to the body 10, which in this case forms a shaft (see dotted lines in Fig. 5,). 16 denotes again the caps holding ,together. the two covers. and 17 is the stirrup. vl8 1s an adjustable screw screwed into the shaft 10 and holding the latter in its proper position. In Figs. 7, 8 and 9 there is shown another formofthe body 10 and of the pendant. This form of the body 10 secures a better fitting of the crown. According to this modification only the extension 11 corresponding to the cover 5 is provided with a groove 12.

A watch casing according to this invention has no hinges or joints rojecting beyond the casing and it may be closed in a sure and dust-tight manner.

I claim:

1. A watch case comprising two covers, the edges of which contact in the closed position of the covers, each cover having an integral channeled extension, the edges of the extensions being in the planes of the edges of the covers, said extensions combining to form a pendant-like hollow body in In the construction shown in these' their closed position, a body entirely inclosed by the extensions and forming a pivot for the covers, and means to hold the latter in closed position.

2. In a watch casing, two covers each having a flange thereon, a spring-ring surrounding said casing parts and having a groove of a width equal to the whole width of said flanges and capable of taking up the latter when the covers are, in their closed position to hold them in said position.

3. In a watch casing, two covers each having a flange'thereon, an extension on each cover, a body surrounded by said extensions and provided with a hole for the shaft 'serving for winding up the watch and for adjusting the hands, means for holding said body in .its pro er position, a spring-ring surrounding said casing-parts and having a groove'of a width equal to the whole width of said flanges and capable of taking up the latter when the covers are in their closed position to hold them insaid position.

4. In a watch casing, two covers each having a flange thereon, an extension on each cover rigidly connected to the latter, and forming together in the closed position of the covers a pendant-like'body, a body surrounded by said extensions and provided with a hole for the shaft serving for winding up the watch and for adiusting the hands, means for holding said body in its proper position, a spring-ring surrounding said casing-parts and having a groove of a width equal to the whole width of said flanges and capable of taking up the latter when the covers are in their closed position to hold them in said position.

5. In a watchcasing, two covers each having a flange thereon, an extension on each cover rigidly connected to the latter, and forming together in the closed position of the covers a pendant-like body, a body surrounded by said extensions and loosely mounted on a shaft projecting beyond the watch-work and serving for winding up the watch and adjusting the hands, caps pressing said extensions against this last mentioned body, a spring-ring surrounding said casing-parts and having a groove of a width equal to the whole width of said flanges and capable of taking up the latter when the covers are in their closed position to hold them in said position.

6. In a watch casing, two covers each having a flange thereon, an extension on each cover rigidly connected to the latter, and forming together in the closed position of the covers a pendant-like body, a body surrounded by said extensions and loosely mounted on a shaft projecting beyond the watch-work and serving for winding up the watch andadjusting the hands, caps pressing said extensions against this last mentioned body, a stirrup holding said caps in their proper position relatively to this body, a spring-ring surrounding said casing-parts and having a groove of a width equal to the whole width of said flanges and capable of taking up the latter when the covers are in their closed position to hold them in said position.

7. In a watch casing, two covers, means for holding the latter in their closed position, an extension on each cover forming together in the closed position of the covers a pendant like body, a body provided-with a hole for the shaft serving for winding up the watch and for adjusting the hands and arranged with said extensions and acting as a pivot for the covers, means for pressing the extensions against the. body acting as a pivot, and a stirrup holding said means in the proper position relatively to said exten s1ons.
