Description

Patented Oct. 11, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
UNITED STATES HENRY E. VERMOT, OF SAG HARBOR, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR '10 JOSEPH FAHYS 86 COM- PANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
WATCHCASE.
Application filed November 19, 1925. Serial No. 70,064.
This invention relates to watch cases that are intended to be used with a holder of some kind, such as wrist watches.
This invention has for its object the easy application of the watch case to the holder and the interchangeability between watch cases and holders. These objects I secure by making the case back and bezel act as retaining rings for keeping the holder securely in place in the case center. The back may be integral with the center and the bezel separate or the bezelmay be integral with the center and the back separate or both back and bezel may be separable from the center. The separate members are attachable to the center by the usual undercut groove usual in watch construction.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a face view of a watch case and holder;
Figure 2 is a transverse section thru the watch case and holder on line 2'2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the disassembled parts.
Referring first to Figure 3, a watch case center is shown at 1 and a holder for same at 2. The center is adapted to fit snugly in the opening in the holder and in the instance shown. this fit is madewith a slight taper. The center has the usual undercut flanges 3 adapted to engage with corresponding flanges 6 on the back 4 and bezel 5 according to the usual practice in watch manufacturing. When the holder 2 is mounted on a center 1 and the back 4 and the bezel 5 snapped into position on the center, the latter two members act as keepers to hold all the parts together as shown in Figure 2. This is due to the fact that the outer diameters of the back and bezel'exceed the diameter of the center, so that they overlap onto the back and front of the holder as shown clearly in Figures 1 and 2.
It will be evident that such a construction makes the assembling of the holder on the case extremely simple and it is also to be observed that the holders may be of any design and the watch case of any design so that interchangeability of various holders on a given watch case or of various watch cases on a given holder is permissible.
I claim 1. A watch case holder provided with an inner bearing surface fittingthe outer periphery of the center of said watch case and having laterally-presented bearing surfaces 7 adapted to be engaged by circumferential portions of the bezel and back respectively of said watch case.
'2. The combination with a watch case center provided with a bearing surface extending around its outer periphery and a circumferential flange projecting beyond said bearing surface, of a holder for said watch case, said holder having an inner pcriphery in bearing engagement with said 7 bearing surface of the watch case center, a lateral bearing surface in engagement with said flange, and a second lateral bearing surface adapted to be engaged by the peripheral lateral edge of a bezel.
