With the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling withthe line 3+3 of inthe scope'of the appended claim.

isa stem25, the upper end of which is squared and terminally provided with a shortnotch 26 and a longnotch 27,. the former indicating the side of the valve in which the groove or channel, 23 'is formed, and the latter indicating the direction of the air passage through the valve. It is thus apparent that, when coupling or un- I coupling cars, say in the dark, the position of the assage22 and the channel 23 may be quic ly determined by passing'the finger over the notches 26 and 27, thereby enabling the operator to move the valve in; the proper direction to effect the desired result.
For the purpose of operating the valve there is provided a handle 28, having'a slotted opening 29 adapted to receive the squared endofthe stem 25, the, pin 30 in the stem 25 serving to prevent accidental displacement of the handle and being also adapted to coact therewith to lhosen the valve 21 from its seat. The handle 28 is provided on the end adjacent the stem 25,, with a downward projection 'or fulcrum 31 1 adapted to engage'the upper face of .the cap nut 14 for the purpose to be presently ex- 'plainedr Also formed on the handle 28 is finger 32 which, when the valve engages in one of the notches 33 in thecasting to retain said valve in either its open or closed position. Seated within the" recess 34: formed in the under face of'thecap nut 14, and" encircling the stem 25, is a helical spring 35'said spring being compressed between the nut and the tapered valve 21 and, normally tending to seat said valve tightly within the tapered bushing 16.
In operation, to open or close the valve, the handle 28 is rocked upwardly to disengage the finger 32 from one of the notches 33 in the casting 10, the downward projection 31bearing against the upper face of the cap nut 14 to form a fulcrum for the'handle, and that part of the handle adjacent the stem engaging the pin therein.
The handle 28 is now employed as a lever to loosen the valve 21 from its seat, continued upward movement thereof on the fulcrum 31 raising "said valve in the bushing 16 and against the tension of the spring 35, to permit of the valve being readily turned to the desired position.
in Fig. 5 of the drawing, that the channel 23 is formed in the face of the valve 21 and centrally of the passage 22, thus when the angle cock is closed, communication between the passages 11 and 12 is completely shut off prior to the establishment of communication between the passage12 and the relief port 20, and the consequent reduction of pressure in the hose effected.
From the foregoing it will be observed that there is provided an improved angle cock of simple and novel construction, and one that is fully capable of performing its various functions in a wholly efficient manner.
Whatis claimed is:
An angle cock comprising a casing having a bore, a valve seated in the bore and having oscillatory and reciprocatory movement therein, a lever connected with the valve for oscillating and reciprocating same, a projectiori on said lever atone side of the valve in position to fulcrum on the casing, a looking member on the lever at the other side of said valve, a cooperating locking member carried by the casing, and means for holding the valve yieldably with the locking member engaged.
