CRANE-TROLLEY.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1915.
Application filed July 2, 1912. Serial No. 707,252.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, GEORGE A. TRUE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crane- Trolleys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to cranes, and has for its particular object the obtaining of a construction adapted for handling pipes or other relatively long members.
To this end the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure l is an end elevation; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
A is a bridge or tramway, on which is mounted a traveling trolley B.
C is a depending frame on the trolley provided at its lower end with a turn-table D, to the movable part of which is secured a laterally extending beam or frame E.
F are hoists at opposite ends of the beam E, the cables of which preferably pass over sheaves G and are connected to a common drum H on which they are wound. This drum is driven by a suitable motor I upon the frame E and by means of which the hoists F may be simultaneously and correspondingly raised or lowered.
J is a shaft for rotating the movable part of the turn-table and K is a suitable operating gearing upon the trolley B- actuated by a motor L and adapted to swing the table to any angle desired.
WVith the construction as described in use, the beam or frame E may be swung by the rotation of the turn-table to an angle in which it is parallel with the pipe or other member to be lifted. The hook M at the lower end of said hoists may then be engaged with the article, and by operating the motor I the hoists are simultaneously raised. The trolley is then moved to the desired point, the turn-table adjusted to swing the article into the desired position and the hoists are lowered.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination of a tramway, a trolley traveling thereon, a frame secured to and depending from the trolley, a turntable on the frame, a laterally-extending frame secured to the movable member of the turntable and arranged below the tramway, separate hoists depending from adjacent the opposite ends of said lateral frame, and means for'simultaneously actuating said hoists.
2. The combination of a tramway, a trolley traveling thereon, a frame secured to and depending from the trolley, a turn-table on the frame, a frame secured to the movable member of the turn-table and having extensions projecting laterally upon opposite sides of the axis of rotation of the turntable, said extensions being arranged below the tramway, a hoist depending from each extension, and means for actuating said hoists.
3. The combination of a tramway including spaced members, of a trolley traveling on said members, a frame secured to the trolley and depending therefrom intermediate said spaced members, a turn-table secured to the lower end of said frame, a frame secured to the movable. member of the turntable and having extensions projecting laterally upon opposite side'sof the axis of rotation of the turn-table and beyond the spaced members of the tramway, said extensions beingarranged below said spaced members so as to clear the latter during rotation of the movable member of the turn-table, hoists depending from adjacent the outer ends of said extensions, and means for simultaneously actuating said hoists.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. TRUE.
