MAX TROYER, OF PRAGUE, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
CRANE-OPERATING GEARING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907'.
Application filed December 15,1905. Serial No. 291,904.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX TROYER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Prague, Empire of Austria, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crane-Operating Gearing and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to cranes of that class in which a carriage adapted to run on overhead rails carries a lifting mechanism for raising and lowering the load, a motor for actuating the raising mechanism, and a running mechanism for moving the carriage along the overhead rails.
My invention consists in mounting in the carriage the motor and intermediate gearing, if such be used, together with two or more gearing elements in such a manner that the motor may be coupled with the one or the other of such gearing elements or may be uncoupled from all of them.
One or more of the gearing elements may be connected to the hoisting mechanism and the other or others to the running mechanism, so that the motor may either operate the hoisting mechanism or cause the carriage to travel along its overhead rails.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a diagrammaticalside elevation of a craneoperating gearing constructed in accordance with my invention.
1 is a carriage, indicatedin dotted outlines, and. the straight it ll line 2 indicates the overhead rails along which this carriage is adapted to travel on wheels 3 4.
a indicates the motor-casing pivoted in the carriage 1 at I).
0 indicates a mechanism for actuating the motor-casing, which mechanism, as shown in the drawing, consists of a screw-spindle 5, provided with a hand-wheel 6 and engaging into a nut 7, fixed to the carriage 1. This screw-spindle is free to revolve in a sleeve 71, but is coupled therewith as to longitudinal movement, and the sleeve is pivotally connected to the motor-casing a by a link 8. In the carriage there is mounted a running-gear d, which, as indicated in the drawing, consists of two spurwheels, one of which, 9, is journaled in the carriage and meshes into the other, 10, keyed to the shaft of the runningwheel 3, and besides there is mounted in the carriage a hoisting mechanism, which, as shown in the drawing, consists of a pulley 11, a block 12, and a chain or rope 13.
To the running mechanism (I there is con nected a gearing element, which, as indicated in the drawing, consists of a spur-wheel 14 on the axis of and secured to the spur-wheel 9, and to the hoisting mechanism there is connected another gearing element, which, as indicated in the drawing, consists of a spurwheel 15 on the axis of and secured to the pulley 11.
16 is a gearing element mounted on the motor-casing and driven by the motor and consisting, as indicated in the drawing, of a pinion adapted to engage with either the spur-wheel 141 or the spur-wheel 15.
In the position of the parts shown in Fig. 1 the pinion 16 is out of engagement with both the spur-wheels 14 and 15, so that neither the running mechanism nor the hoisting are operated by the motor. If it is desired to operate the hoisting mechanism, it is only necessary to turn the spindle 5 by the hand-wheel 6 until the motor-casing a has been turned round its pivot b far enough to the left as to bring the pinion 16 into engagement with the spur-wheel 15. Then this latter, and with it the pulley 11, will be turned. If it is desired to operate the running mechanism, the motor-casing is turned to the right by operating'the spindle 5 until the pinion 16 comes into engagement with the sprr-wheel 14, whereby the running-wheel 3 will be revolved and the carriage caused to travel.
The motor used may be of any desired construction; but I prefer to use a reversible motor.
I claim In combination with a crane carriage adapted to run on an overhead track and a running mechanism adapted to drive such carriage along said track, a hoisting mechanism mounted in such carriage, a plurality of gearing elements mounted in the carriage, part of which are adapted to drive the run ning mechanism and the remainder of which to drive the hoisting mechanism, a casing pivotally mounted in the carriage, a motor and a gearing element adapted to be driven thereby, such motor and gearing elements being mounted in the said casing and means In testimony whereof I have signed my for rocking the casing to and fro whereby the name to this specification in the presence of gearing element driven by the motor may be two subscribing witnesses.
brought into engagement with any of the MAX TROYER. gearing elements of the running mechanism and hoisting mechanism, substantially as and for the purpose described.
