" Rigging, of which the following is a full,
clear, conoise, and exact escripiio'n, referencebeing had to the accoi'npanyiiigorawings, forming a partof this specification.
- My invention relates to improvements in the means of connecting the draft yoke to the draw-bar in railway draft rigging.
T he object of my invention is, to provide a simple and eflicieiit means ofconnecting the draw-bar to the draft yoke in raiiway draft rigging. i In the drawings formirig a part.- of this specification, Figure l is a pian view, part1} in central horizontal section, of a means of connecting the dra ft yoke and draw-bar enibodying-my invention. Fig. 2- is a side eleration of the structure shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is' a vertical cross section taken on line 33 of Fig. Fig. i-is a vertical longitudinal section taken substantially on line 4'l of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a view simiia r to Fig. 1, showing another form of my im provements, the sectional portion thereof being taken substantially on line 5 5 of Fig. 6. Fig. 6 is asie eievation of the structure shown in 5. Fig. 'Z'is vertical section taken sl'ibstantiaiiy on line of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is longitudinal vertieai section taken subs antially on line 8-8 of F1 5.
fieferring to the drawings, represents the upper, and it the lower iimh of a draft yoke of which the forward ends only are shown in the drawings. The draw-bar is represented by the reference 11, and. 12 tie-- notes a key, preferably fiat, and verticaiiy disposed in the vertical openings i313 in the forward portions of the upper and. lower limbs of the-yoke, and registering with the vertical. perforation 25 in the draw-b The key 12, as shown, is made in two see tions, the upper section 14, and lower section 15 being each provided with interengagiiig tongues 16-16, and, as will be apparent, the sect-ions 1 anei 15 are similar in form ami shape. Through, the tongues IMF-i6 the vertical key 12 provided with a transverse perforation 1T registering with the perfora- Spe'cifiration of Letters Pa'ieir-t.
- figures is of the iiiavv-bar, e ve transverse key in provied with a head U I (i with a. perforation 21 at the enigi to receive a cotterrin 22. referririgto the drawings, part cularly Figs. 1, 2 arid it Wiii be seenthat the sides of the butt of the dram liar are reoessezi or countersunk the portions in which the holes 1.818 are provided, so that the ends of the key 151 lie veil within the plan s of the sides of coupler butt. A vertical key 12 is provided at either endivvith ahead 24, which exteiikis over the portionsof the eiids o the yoke arms surrounding the recesses iiswl therein. f i
reii 'ove the drav'v-bar, the cott eif 22 is I it withtirawn, after which the key 19 may be taken out, thus reieasiog the sections of the vertical k'ey which iiiay be their ivithdrawn and the drawbar removed... This oration is reversed when the draw-oar sernhi'ed with the yoke. v
In the form of my device shovm Figs. 5 'to' 8 iii'elusive, the cire w-bar is provided with a vertical opehing 27 to receive the vertioai key 28 which passes through slots 29 and 3G proviso-2i, respectively, in the no perfiilnb 31 and the iower limb ofthe draft yoke The key shown inthese in piece, and is provided at eaeh end with a. head iii, the ends of which extend over the portions of the yoke ariiis surrounding the siots and 30 therein. Intermeziiate its ends, the key 28 is provided with a transversei extending perforation to i-eeeive the pin or hoit the latter thro' registering transverse slots 3E -37 in soils of the (haw-bar.
eudiziaily o or bolt to s merits of the tiraW-har and key 28. The hoit is provieii one en iwith a head 38, ami the other end is threaiieii to receive a nut 39. In the form just described, it Wili also he i'ioteo. that the side Waiis of the butt to permit the pin rei etive moveof the drawhar are countersunk or recessed er in rei .ie mit limited 4 erence both to the draw-bar and yoke, and are of suflicient length to permit the passage of the head 34 of the vertical key 28 when said slots are alined. V
In normal position of the parts, and upon forward movement of the draw-bar, the front edge of the vertical key 28 engages with the front ends of the slots 29 and 3G yoke and a draw-bar; a key in sliding en'- gagement with the draw-bar and slidingly engaging the yoke and removable means passing through said key to secure the same within the draw-bar said means being lo cated entirely within the planes of the side walls of the draw-bar.
2. In a draft rigging, a draw bar, a draft yoke, a pin, and a key slidingly engaging the draw bar and the yoke, the pin passing through the key and slidingly engaging the draw bar.
3. In a draft rigging, a slotted drawbar, a slotted yoke, a key slidably'engaging the draw bar and the yoke within the slots thereof, and means to secure the key within said slots, said means slidingly engaging the draw bar and the key. 7
4. In a draft rigging for railway cars, a draft yoke, a draw bar, a key and a pin, the key having an enlarged head, the yoke v and draw bar each having registering slots adapted for the passage of said head, the key being of lesser width than the slots to permit a limited sliding movement of the key in all of said slots, the pin passing through the draw bar and key to hold the key withinsaid slots.
5. In a draft rigging for railway cars, a draft yoke, a draw bar, a key and a pin, the key having an enlarged head, the yoke and draw bar each having registering slots adapted for the passage of said head, the key being of lesser width than the slots to permit a limited sliding movement of the key in all of said slots, the pin passing through the draw bar and key tohold the key within said slots, said pin being in slid ing engagement with the draw bar.
(3. In a railwaydraft rigging, a draft oke a drawbar said draw-bar bein 7 7 b countersunk on the sides thereof, and pro-- vided witlr transversely extending recesses tlierethrough, a vertically arranged key connecting said draw-bar and draft yoke and passing through vertically alined recesses therein, and a removable'member passing through said and the transversely extending slots in thedrai-v-bar, the ends of said member being located within said countersunk portions of the draw-bar.
7. In. a railway draft rigging, a draft yol e, a draw-bar, said yoke and draw-bar being provided with vertically alined slots, a vertically extending key passing through said slots and adapted to connect the yoke and dra'w bar, said key having enlarged ends, portions of which extend over the nietal of yoke arms surrounding the slots-1 therein, and a removable member extending transversely through the draw-bar and said key for holdingthe latter in place.
