To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES H. WILSON, citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Saddle-Pads, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention pertains to pads for attachment to saddles with a view to affording soft seats; and it contemplates the provision of a pad equipped with means, of any description, whereby the saddle strings embraced in every stock saddle may be utilized in attaching in secure manner the pad and adjusting it perfectly over the saddle seat.

"With the foregoing in mind the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claim when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective illustrating my novel pad as properly applied to a saddle. Fig. 2 is a plan of the pad per 86.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in both views of the drawings.

The body 1 of my novel pad is preferably, though not necessarily, constructed to flex along its longitudinal center at the point indicated by 2. The body may otherwise be constructed in any manner compatible with the purpose of my invention without involving departure from the scope of the same as claimed. At several points and preferably at the four points illustrated, the body is provided with tabs 3, of leather or other suitable material. Each of these tabs is provided with a plurality of apertures 4, for an important purpose hereinafter set forth.

The ordinary stock saddle is provided at several points with strings or latigos, as indicated by 5 in Fig. 1, and the prime purpose of my invention is to employ the said strings or latigos in the attachment of the pad and in the adjustment of the same, so as to afford a smooth cushion over the seat of the saddle, indicated by 6 in Fig. 1. erable to provide each tab with a plurality of apertures, and to arrange the apertures in each tab in the manner shown, since by reason of said provision a single pad is adapted to be attached to and snugly arranged over saddles having different arrangements of latigos By reference to Fig. 1, the manner of applying my novel pad will be readily apparent, the latigos being passed through apertures of the tabs and secured in the manner shown, or in any other approved manner immediately at the outer sides of the tabs. When the latigos are embellished by disks 7 of leather or other suitable material, the said disks may be interposed between the outer sides of the tabs and the points at which the 'latigos in each pair are secured together.

It will be manifest from the foregoing that my novel pad may be drawn snugly over a saddle seat and secured in such position without liability of its being casually released; and it will also be manifest that the pad may be made to fit any stock saddle, and may be shaped perfectly to the contour of the seat on which it is disposed, this because the positions of the straps are such that they will draw the pad firmly to the saddle seat, and also because the double combination or series of apertures in the four straps or tabs are adapted for the engagement of the eight latigos that pass through the buttons at the base of the fork and cantle of every stock saddle, thus adapt ing a single pad for application to and perfect adjustment on any size and style of stock saddle. It will further be apparent that there is no liability of the pad becoming loose or flabby, and no liability of the pad being casually disconnected from the saddle.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
