Description
GTEUCLAR'KBJ Pannin Mill.
,Paitented March 14, 1871 MPErERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINQTON. D C.
To aZZ whom itjvtayjconcern:
r Beit knownthat I; GEORGE E. CLARKE, of
r Racine, inthe countyof Racine and State of Wisconsin,,have invented certain new and use- NITE STATES ATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVE ENT YIN FANNlNG-MILLS.
i 3 s eci fieatidiifonmtg part of Letters Patent No. l12,687. dated lVIal'Lll 14, 1871.
ful Improvements iinfFanning-Mills; and I do I ,1 herebydeclaretheifollowing tobe a full, clear, andexact descriptionthereof, reference being 9 hadto the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of referenceinarked thereon. I The nature offn yinvention consists in the construction of thejheading for fanning-mills, and alsointhe modeof connecting or attaching saidheadinggtothe sides of the mill. I In order toenablejothers skilled in the art I to which my invention appertains to make and usethesamed willfnowproceed to describe its constructionandfoperation, referring to the annexed drawings,;in"which 1 Figure 1 isa longitudinal vertical section of my fanningmill, and Fig. 2 is a section of the wheading. r
A represents and B the sides of the fanning-mill. i
y Hithertogreat troublehfas been experienced i I in not havingthe heading of fanning-mills air tight, as by thesun and weathertheslats or i pieces of which they are made will shrink and l 1 allow the air, and also dust, to pass through.
To avoid this, Iconstruct the heading A of one piece, into one side of. which I cut the groovesa a, as shown in the drawings, by "which I am enabled to bend it and make it conform tothe shapeusually required. I also can flatten this heading out, to allow it to be easier packed for transportation. The edges of the heading, which are to connect with the sides 13 B, are cut so as to form tenons b b, as shown in Fig. 2. I furthermore provide a groove, cl, in each side B of the end of the fanning-mill, into which are fitted thetenons b 1),
thereby securely holding the heading in place by passing the bolts ethrough the sides of the mill. The shoe of the fanning-mill may in like manner be provided with grooves to receive the ends of its cross-sections, and then secured by bolts. In fact, all the parts of a fanningmill may be put together in this manner, whereby it may be very readily taken to pieces, packed in small compass for shipment, and put together at the place of destination by almost anybody. 1
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is n The fanning-mill herein described, as a new article of manufacture, consisting of the said several parts constructed and arranged, as specified and shown, to allow of said mill being set up and taken apart with facility and dispatch for the purpose of transportation, as aforesaid.
e. E. CLARKE.
