To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY M. SHIRE, citizen of the United States, residing at Bantry, in the county of McHenry and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Share-Fasteners for llows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plows, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed attachment whereby a lay, or share may be quickly connected or disconnected from the moldboard and landside, to provide means whereby a dulled or worn out share or lay may be quickly replaced by a new lay or a sharpened one without discarding the remainder of the plow.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed device which may be readily applied to plows of various forms and sizes without material structural change either in the plow or in the attachment.
TVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certainnovel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the landside and moldboard supporting frame and the improved share or lay in position, with a portion of the moldboard broken away to show the strain applying device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation from the landside. Fig. 3 is a detail illustrating the manner of supporting the moldboard from the share. Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view, from the rear, of the share. Fig. 5 is a detached perspective View of the coupling member whereby the share-landside is supported from the main landside. Fig. 6 is a sectional detail of the device for applying strain between the moldboard and the share. Fig. 7 is a rear elevation in section on the line 7-7 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 8 is a detached perspective View of the forward portion of the landside.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In the improved device the landside portion 10 of the plow is reduced at its forward Specification of Letters Patent.

end longitudinally whereby a projecting horn-like portion 11 is produced with the upper face inclined to correspond to the inclined lower face of the lay or share. By this means a substantially vertical shoulder 12 is produced at the juncture of the horn 11 and the body of the landside.
The moldboard is represented conventionally at 13 with its lower edge 14 directed obliquely to the landside. The moldboard is secured to the forward portion of the landside by transverse bolts or other suitable fastening devices 15 and supported from the rear portion of the landside by a brace or like device 16 in the ordinary manner.
Extending between the landside 10 and the lower face of the moldboard is a brace bar 17 connected by transverse bolts or other suitable devices 18 at one end to the landside and riveted or otherwise secured at 19 to the moldboard near its other end. The outer terminal of the brace bar 17 extends for a distance beyond the forward edge 14 of the moldboard as represented at 20. The lay or share is represented at 21 of the usual form and bears by its rear edge 22 against the forward edge 14 of the moldboard. At V its landside end the share 21 is provided with a depending portion 23 which constitutes the share-landside and bears against the outer face of the horn portion 11 of the landside and corresponds in outline substantially therewith. At its rear end the share-landside 23 bears against the shoulder 12 of the main landside 10. The outer face of the member 23 when in position relative to the landside 10 is in longitudinal alinement with the outer face of the same, as shown in Fig. 1, so that no obstructions are presented from the point of the share to the rear end of the landside. The rear end of the share-landside 23 extends for a short distance beneath the forward point of the moldboard as shown, and is likewise provided with a recess 24. which is tapered toward its inner end. Fitting in the recess 24: is the tapered head 25 of a bolt 26, the latter extending through an aperture in the horn portion 11 of the landside and held in position by a clamp nut 27. By this means when a rearward strain is applied to the member 23 and the share attached thereto the tapered head 25 by engaging in the tapered recess 24 will cause the member 23 to bind closely against the landside and be firmly supported in position relative thereto.
Attached by a rivet or other suitable fastening device 28 to the share 21 is a clip 29 which projects rearwardly of the rear edge of the share 21 and beneath the adjacent portion of the moldboard 13, thereby sup: porting the moldboard and share relative to each other. Pivoted at 30 to the share is another clip device 31 having its rear terminal in hook shape as shown. The projecting portions of the members 29 and 31 thus bear against the under face of the moldboard, while the projecting portion 20 of the brace bar 17 likewise projects beneath the share and coacts with the clips to firmly support the moldboard and share and effectually prevent both upward and downward movement between them.
Projecting upwardly from the brace bar 17 is a stud 33, and surrounding the stud is a friction sleeve 34-. Mounted for rotation upon the sleeve 34 is a block 35, preferably square transversely. Engaging over the block 35 is a U-shaped yoke 36. Pivoted in the yoke 36 is a rod 3'7 having an eye 38 engaging the hook portion 31 of the clip 31. The rod 37 is provided with a turnbuckle 39 so that the length of the rod may be adjusted to increase or decrease the pulling force as hereafter explained. Pivoted at 40 between the sides of the yoke 36 is a cam 41 which operates against the rear face of the block 35. The cam 41 is provided with an operating handle 4-2 and a stop lug 43. By this arrangement it will be obvious that a pulling strain may be applied to the rod 37 .and thus draw the share 21 tightly against the lower edge of the moldboard, the stop lug 4-3 limiting the movement of the cam and holding the parts in adjusted position. By this simple means it will be obvious that the share 21 may be quickly attached or detached so that in event of fracture or impairment the share may be removed and sharpened, or a new and sharpened share quickly attached, and without removing any of the parts. The rearward pull upon the share which is exerted by the operation of the cam 41 draws the recess 24 of the sharelandside tightly over the inclined head 25 of the bolt 26 at the same time that the share is drawn against the moldboard, thus tightly connecting the parts.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured and applied and renders it comparatively easy to remove a dull or broken share and replace it with a sharpened or unbroken share.
By providing a plurality of the shares together with its sharedandside 23 and the clip devices 29 and 31, the operator can quickly replace a dull or broken share without loss of time or labor.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A. plow including a moldboard and a landside, a brace barconnected to the landside and moldboard, a share bearing at its rear edge against the forward edge of the moldboard and supported by the forwardly extending portion of the brace bar, means for supporting the share and moldboard from vertical movement, a stud rising from the brace bar, a block mounted for rotation relative to the stud, a yoke bearing against the block, connecting means between the yoke and the share, and a cam pivoted to said yoke and operating against said block to apply strain to said share to hold it against the moldboard.
2. A plow including a landside having the forward portion reduced and with a lateral stop shoulder at the juncture of the reduced portion and the body of the landside, a moldboard connected to the landside, a share bearing at its rear edge against the forward edge of the moldboard, a member depending from the share and bearing against the reduced portion and the lateral shoulder of the landside, said depending member having a recess with converging sides, a clamp device carried by the landside and including a head having converging faces engaging in the converging recess, and means for applying strain to said share to hold it against the moldboard.
3. A plow including a moldboard and a landside, a brace bar connected to the landside and moldboard, a share bearing at its rear edge against the forward edge of the moldboard and supported by the forwardly extended portions of the brace bar, means for supporting the share from vertical movement relative to the moldboard, a stud rising from the brace bar, a sleeve mounted for rotation upon the stud, a block mounted upon the sleeve, a yoke bearing around the block, connecting means between the yoke and share, and a cam pivoted to said yoke and operating against said block to apply strain to said share to hold it against the moldboard.
