Natnfre and Objecteof the Invention. This invention relates to certain Improvements in the construction of boot-jacks, which, renderthem more convenient to Operate with than are Others known to the inventor. i

e General Description.

` A is the foot-board, which is inade in three pieces,

This slat is pivoted at about D, and, wedging in betweenthesides a agrests loosely on the straps B and the elastic cushion E.

When the foot 1s pressed upon this center slat the y-eect willbe to draw the sides together, and the prongs F will then take a irm gripe ofthe heel of the boot of the operator. When the pressure is released the elastic cushion Eand the elasticity in the straps B will serve to return the parts to'tlier original position as bebrethe pressure was applied.

The pivot I, upon which this arm H swings, will extend beyond the frame at both sides, and suitable lhese handles, while serving as rests'to steady the body of theoperator, can be turned to adjust the position of the vibrat` ing arm H.;- '4 l lhe operation of my boot-jack is clearly illustrated' in iig. 2 of the drawing, where, by dotted lines, I show v' Y one foot of the operator resting on the foot-board,

while the heel of the other foot is inserted between "the prongs F, the vibrating arm H being. guided by the hands of the operator to-form a brace againstthe'4 upper part of the boot. i

There was a patent granted to F. Ahi, in,185S,No.'l' Y 22,404,`which in part resembles mine, but it is's'ubstantially di'erent, inasmuch as in his device' the swinging arm H isnot adjusted by the hands oi the operatolx- Y lhere are also severa-l devices operating to close the-prongs Fto gripe the heel of the boot by pressure of the foot upon the foot-board, but I know-of none l accomplishing the object in the simple and effective manner I here describe.
