i e it known that i, SOMA Hnnzoc, a c1t1- Zr 1 of the United States, and (t-resident of w York city, in the'county and State of w York, have invented certainnew and useful improvements in Hobby-Horses or himilar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a hobby horse or simiiar article, the body of which is constructed as a teeter board that is adapted to be oscillated by the rider, and to impart rotary motion to the axis of the propelling wheels. in this way, the device may be readily operated by an easy swaying movement of the riders body and without unduly tiring his limbs. The invention consists in the various features of novelty more fully pointed out in the specification and appended claim.

The device comprises essentially a truck or chassis, body operating on the principle of a two arm lever and pivoted to said truck, and means for converting the oscillatory movement of said body into a forward or a'aackward movement of the truck.

The body of the device consists of a base piate 9, which is constructed on the principle of a teeter board or two arm lever, being hinged at or about its center to frame 1 of the chassis. The hinge pivot 10 connecting the parts 9 and 1, is mounted in a pair of opposed bearings 11, and 12, secured respectively to the lower side of plate 9 and to the upper side of frame 1, and which space said parts in such a manner, that plate may seesaw freely on frame 1.
From the front section or arm of plate 9, there depends a pair of stirrups 13, while on the rear section or arm of said plate is mounted a seat 14:, the stirrups and seat Specification of Letters Patent.

being thus disposed at opposite sides of fulcrum 10. The distance from the stirrups and the seat to the fulcrum of plate 9 is such, that while the rider may slip his feet into the stirrups to depress the same and thus swing down the front plate section, his weight when such pressure is relaxed and when borne exclusively by the seat, will swing said front plate section up. The forward arm of plate 9, is provided with a widened bore 15 that accommodates the steering post 2, and prevents the latter from interfering with the rocking motion of said plate. The rear arm of plate 9, is provided with means for converting the rocking movement of said plate into a rotary movement of axle 7. These means are shown to consist of a pitman 16 pivoted to a bearing 17 of plate 9, and engaging the cranked section of axle 7, so thateach oscillation of the plate 9 will impart a rotation to the axle. A pair of springs 18 interposed between frame 1 and plate 9 in the front and rear of pivot 10 serves to normally sustain the plate in parallelism with frame 1, and to steady and ease the movement thereof.

With the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 4, the device is adapted for the accommodation of two riders. Here a first seat 19 is mounted on plate 9, in front of pivot 10, while a second counterbalancing seat 29 is mounted on said plate back of the pivot. Stirrups 21 are secured to plate 9, within reach of seat 19 while stirrups 22 are secured to frame 1 within reach. of seat 20. lVith. this embodiment, the. rear rider by alternately bearing upon his stirrups and seat, will propel the vehicle, while the front rider, will act as a weight, and should follow the movements of the rear rider, particularly while starting.
it will be understood that the parts are so proportioned and arranged as to permit the board 9 to rock upon the pivot 10 in the intended manner without striking or otherwise interfering with the frame 1 or other portions of the device.
