Description
` employ in theconstruction oi' my commode.
`sonorion15.hivniiveo, or LANSING, MICHIGAN.
To `all whom, it 'ma/y concern sing, Ingham county, Michigan, haveinvented certain new` and useful Improvements' iuEarth-Olosets, of which the following is a specification. i
The nature of my inventionrelates to the construction of rauearth-closet, in which" the device for feedf 1 ing" the dry earth upon the excreta, is hinged to the covelso that, when the cover is closed after using the closet, it Icauses the feed to throw a regulated quantity of eartliupou the excreta' so as `to absorb all offeiieive filuvia.-` l
Figure 1 is a perspective of` myinventiom* `Figure 2 shows in detail thevarious parts which l Figure 3 is a plan viewpf the cover and feeder, showing how they are hinged together.
Figure 4 is a sectioliviewoi' my commode. i
. Figure 5 is aA plan Viewr of. the bottom of the hop-l` per, having the curved` inclined`cl1ute for conducting the-earth,attached to it. i Figure 6` is a `planview of my commode.
Letters D, E, F, and H; represent theframe of my y commode, the from;` part, D, having the holez cut throughit 1 Hinged to the top of the part D is the cover C, for
` closing over the hole and `for operating the feeder B so l asto feed the earth upon the excreta.
` Beit kuown'that I, SOLOMON D.NEwBno, of Lanaient @Ww l Leiters Patent No. 112,620, dma March 14. 1871.

` `In thelower edge of this cover there is a slot cnt,
and extending across this,` slot there is a pin or holt, torivhich the L- shaped `bar A is hinged in such a manne1'that,when the cover is raisedand lowered, it causes the bar to move backward and forward. To the rear end of this bar' there is attached the feeder B, which consists of a wedge, or' any othershaped block which may be desirable,.and which is moved backward and forward so as to feed the earth upon the excreta by the rising and Vlowering of the cover O. i
Placed under the seat is a chute, G, which serves as a guide for the earth upon the excreta.
Q isa hopper, in which the earth is placed.
By changing the pin in theslot in the cover the feeder B can be made to feed larger or smaller quantities of earth, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, is i The cover O, bar A, and feeder B, in combination with the Vframe E, F, and D, and hopper Q, substantially :is set forth.
