FASTENING DEVICE.
Application filed October 1c, 1911.
To all 207mm it may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD RINTEL SIM- MONS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 21 Vyse street, Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, England, manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises improvements in or relating to hat pin heads, buttons, brooches, badges and like articles.
In order that this invention may be clearly understood and more easily carried into practice, I have appended hereunto a sheet of drawings, upon which Figure l is a side elevation of a hat pin constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 illustrates in elevation the three parts thereof disassembled, viz. the cup-shaped body, the dome-shaped part, and the locking ring. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the hat pin illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the locking ring. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan of the locking ring illustrated in Fig. 4:, showing same partly formed. Fig. 6 is a vertical section through the cup shaped body. Fig. 7 is a plan of the cup shaped body shown in Fig. 6.
In this invention which is shown only as a hat pin band a cup-shaped body A is pressed up from sheet metal, said cup-shaped body having three or other suitable number of projections a standing out from the periphery of the cup. Said cup or body is provided with a shank a in the case of a hat pin or button, or other suitable means of attachment.
A dome-shaped part B is arranged to lie inside the cup or bottom A and is stamped up from sheet metal, the outer face being convex and the inner concave. Said dome is incorporated to accommodate a piece of textile material C so that in the case of a hat, a piece of the material with which the hat is trimmed can be inserted in the hat pin so as to harmonize with the trimmings.
The textile material is placed over the outer face of the dome B and the remainder of the material is twisted up so as to draw the material tight over the outer face, the material thus twisted lying in the chamber intermediate the concave face of the dome B Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jail. 12, 1915.
Serial No. 654,815.
and Fig.
The dome B is held in position by a looking ring D with a quick detachable fastening, said ring being pressed up from sheet metal. The periphery of the blank is formed with two, three or more eccentric parts (Z between each of which a recess (Z is cut, said recesses corresponding to the projections a formed in the back A aforesaid. The blank is cupped at CF and the eccentric parts d subsequently rolled or turned inward in such a manner as to form resilient inclined guides 6Z while the recesses intermediate these guides form slots for the entrance of the projections a By these means the locking ring D may be attached to the bottom A in a very rapid manner as it is only necessary to place the two parts together and partially rotate same relatively to one another when the projections (1 engage the inner edge of the inclined guides (1* and lock in the manner of a bayonet joint. The outer face of the locking ring is provided with a hole d through which the textile covering C on the dome is visible, the diameter of the said hole (Z being less than the diameter of the dome B so that the locking ring presses on the convex face of the latter and securely holds it in position.
It will be obvious that when it is desired to change the material C it is merely necessary to rotate the locking cap Dwithdraw same, remove the dome B and replace the textile material thereon with another piece, replace the dome B and locking cap D when the operation is complete.
It will be obvious that instead of using a dome covered by textile material, miniatures, etc., can be placed in the pin brooch or the like.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a fastening device for an article of the class described, the combination with a hollow front plate having a rearwardly rounded peripheral portion and adapted to support an ornamental fabric covering having its free margins folded behind and into the hollow of said plate, a band having a gripping portion reduced in size with respect to the rounded peripheral portion to frictionally grip and stretch the fabric tightly over the outer face of said plate as the band [3518 back of the cup A as illustrated in is forced'rearwardly thereabout, and a cupupon relative rotative adjustment of said shaped base closing the rear portion'of said cup and band, substantially as described. 10
