To all whom it may, concern Be it known thatI, Drnnnron J. Fnnnsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma City, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuel- Econoinizers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements infuel economizers and has for its object the provision of anovcl combination and. arrangement of parts which will tend to wholly consume the fuel which is used in cooking stoves, and the like.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device which will materially reduce the amount of smoke passing from the stack or chimney connected to the stove, thereby eliminating much of the inconvenience in using such heating devices.
Stillanother object of the invention is the provision of a device which will greatly increase the heat energy as the heated gases passing around the fire box tend to heat the same and thereby materially increase the amount of heat energy generated by the apparatus.
A further. object of the invention is the provision of a novel combination and arrangement of parts which will accomplish the above results and which will be cheap to manufacture and simple in operation.
.Vith the above and other objects in view I will now proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of an ordinary cooking stove showing the method of constructing the same in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my improved stove showing the cover plates removed, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the firebox taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, Fig. at is a top planview of a fragment of the grate showing the smoke outlet formed at the end thereof.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference 1 indicates the oven of the stove constructed in accordance with my invention which is separated from the fire box and ashpit by the wall 2. The fire box which is indicated by the numeral 3 is preferably of the usual character and is separated from the ashpit by the usual grate 4, as will be clearly seen upon referring to Fig. 1. i
The usual smoke pipe 6 which com1nunicates with a suitable stack or chimney is secured to the collar 5 which is formed on the stove, which collar registers with the aperture, which in turn communicateswith the passage 7 across the top of the oven indicated by the numeral 8. This passage 7 extends longitudinally of stove as shown in Fig. 1 and terminates at the end opposite the smoke pipe in the passage 9, which communicates at its lower extremity with the ashpit. The passage 9 is preferably separated from the firebox 3 by means of the wall 10 which is provided at its lower end with the aperture 11, as will be clearly seen upon referring to Figs. 1 and 3.
The firebox 8 terminates short of the walls of the stove and is separated therefrom by means of the passages 12 and 18, which are formed bythe side walls of the stove and the walls 14 of the firebox. These walls 14 extend downwardly and form a tight joint with the grate as clearly shown in Fig. 3 and are provided at their upper ends with the recesses 15, the use of which'will be more fully hereinafter described. 1
The passages 12 and 13 are also bounded by the walls 16 which extend downwardly from the upper rearmost corner of the wall 10 and the cover plate of the stove join to substantially the center of the grate as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The grate 1 is preferably formed in the usual manner and provided at each extremity with the solid portions 17 which are provided with the rectangular aperture 18 near one of the lateral extremities of the grate.
It will be clearly seen that in use a cook stove constructed in the manner previously described will consume substantially the entire amount of fuel fed thereto as the 'ases which are always thrown off from the burning fuel are not entirely consumed but pass through the recess 15 in the end walls of the firebox, thence downwardly through the passages 12 and 18 and by means of the draft which is caused by the air passing through the fire and into the smoke pipe it will be apparent that the gases will follow the direction of travel indicated by the arrows and again pass through the tire before entering the smoke pipe.
While in the foregoing I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention 1 wish it to be understood that I' may make such changes in the combination and arrangement of parts which may fall within the scope of the claim appended.
What is claimed is A device of the character described including a casing, a fire b'ox within the casof'the fire box between the fire box and the casing, said partition walls forming passages and being recessed at their upper edges to form openings into the fire box, said passages establishing communication between the fire box and ash pit whereby the smoke from the fire is directed into the ash pit and again drawn into the fire.
