FENDER OR CAP FOR VERTICALLY-DISPOSED DRAINAGE-PIPES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1915.
Application filed October 16, 1913. Serial No. 795,553.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. KEMPF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shickley, in the county of Fillmore and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fenders or Caps for vertically-Disposed Drainage- Pipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention7 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in soil fenders or drainage caps for vertically disposed tiled drainage pipes and comprises a simple and efiicient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the Iaccompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which Figure l is a central vertical sectional View through my improved drainage cap, shown as fitted to the top of a drain tiling, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view transversely through the cap showing the corrugations formed on the inner surface thereof.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, A designate series of vertically disposed tile, and B designates a receptacle through the bottom of which said tile passes and which is adapted to contain water. A fender, designated by letter D, has a flanged top which is adapted to rest upon the top of said receptacle and is provided with a central opening E which may be closed by a lid F and which opening is preferably of a slightly smaller diameter than the diameter of the tile over which the fender is fitted, said opening being provided so that the fender may be conveniently adjusted to the upper end of the tiling. Said fender, the body portion of which is cylindrical, is open at its lower end and has series of corrugations upon its inner surface, the corrugations at their upper ends extending toward the marginal edge of the opening and serving as a means for preventing the tiling from coming in direct contact with the top of the fender. The spaces intermediate the corrugations will allow the water to flow freely from the receptacle over the top of the uppermost of the vertically disposed tiling.
By the provision of a fender made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that the same may be easily and quickly adjusted to the top of a vertically disposed tiling, affording means for allowing the water to pass freely through the tile while trash and other foreign matter will be prevented from passing through the tiling.
TWhat I claim to be new is A fender for tiling consisting of a hollow cylindrical shank portion open at its lower end and having corrugations upon its inner surface and with a ianged top with an opening therein, said corrugations eX- tending toward the marginal edge of the opening and providing means for spacing the end of the tiling a slight distance from the opening, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. KEMPF.
