WRENCH.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN ANDERSON and JOHN ELMEIi ANDERSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in renches; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in wrenches and more particularly to those having relatively fixed and movable jaws and a worm and worm teeth whereby the jaws may be adjusted.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be inexpensively constructed and which will be efficient in operation.
A secondary object of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means for mounting the worm whereby the above ob ject is successfully carried out, this mounting eliminating numerous parts-usually employed in devices of this character.
With the above objects in view, the inven tion resides in certain novel features of construction and combination herein described and claimed and shown in the drawings wherein: a

. In the accompanying drawings, we have shown our improved wrench as comprising a shank 1 which is provided, on its opposite ends, with a serrated jaw 2 and with a plain jaw 3, said jaws being preferably formed integrally with the shank for the sake of simplicity of construction.
As most clearly seen in Fig. 2, the inner edge of the shank 1 is provided with a number of transversely disposed worm teeth 1 which are formed on its inner edge, said teeth coacting with a worm :in a manner to appear. I
Movably mounted upon the shank 1 is a slide 5 which is preferably formed of a single piece of sheet metal bent upon itself throughout its longitudinal center thus Specification of Letters Patent. Y
forming a U-shaped member having its parallel sides 7 projecting beyond the worm teeth 4 and provided with rectangular openings 8 which are disposed in transverse alinement. Rigidly secured between said sides 7 preferably by means of rivets 9, is a spacing plate 10 which has its'opposite ends formed into jaws 11 and 12, the active surface of the jaw 11 being disposed at an angle to the jaw 2 with which it co-acts, while the active face of the jaw 12 is arranged in parallel relation to the jaw 3.
As most clearly seen in Fig. at, the spacing plate -10 is provided, at the central portion of its inner edge, with a transversely extending worm receiving notch 13, said notch being adapted to aline or register with the openings 8 when the parts are assembled. The opposite end walls of the notch 13 are provided with U-shaped notches 14 which are formed intermediate the ends of said end walls. It will therefore be seen that inner and outer stops 15 and 16"are' forinedat each end of the notch 13, said stops being provided for the purpose of non-rotatably mounting a pivot pin 17.
As most clearly shown in Fig. 5, the pivot pin 17 is of cylindrical formation and has its opposite ends provided with right angular notches 18, thus forming longitudinally flattenedsurfaces 19 which lie parallel to the axis of the pi1r17 and transverse flattened surfaces 20 which are disposed at right angles to the surfaces 19.
