cooling apparatus l5, after which it returns as water through the openings f to the condensenpart.
Cooling and condensing ot the steam in the air cooling part i) is facilitated by the use ot a plurality of air circulating tubes il: which pass entirely through (horizontally) said Z and have their ends sealed into the oo 'malls tiiereot but open to the atmosphere; air thus passes freely through said tubes and, because of the very iiirge Wallv surface belonging tothe totality of the tubes, quickly cools and condenses the steam. The parts of the air cooiing part Z which are immediately above the openings e have no air circulating tubes, however, lso
at the steam is perfectly ir'ree to ascend 11 tn through said openings to the top, or close' ro the --top, l). Circuiation is thus quickly and vigorously estab!ishedt i.. Wish it to be understood that my invention is not limited to the particular apparatus described as itl is evident that man inodilications may be made in the details of such apparatus without departing beyond the scope of my invention.
Having now particularly described and asecertained the nature ot niy said invention and in what manner the saincis 'to be performed, l declare that what claim is:
l. ln a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with a chamber adapted to contain cooling liquid, ot steam conduits passing; through said chamber for carrying exhaust steam and evaporating'the cooling liquid, a container for the 'Vapor generated by the heat of the exhaust communicating With the cooling chamber, and means for recondensing the vapor in the container.
2. ln a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with a chamber adapted. to contain cooling liquid, ot a plurality of tubes for passing' exhaust steam through said chamber so as to evaporate the cooling liquid, and a container, communiouting?,` with the coolingv chamber, for the 'vapor thus generated by 'the heat of the exhaust said container being provided with air-cooled Walls.
in a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with chamber adapted to contain cooling' liqu' of steam conduits iig through said mber for carrying oust so to evaporate the cooling liquid, u coi'itainer coniriiuiicatinsy with said coolcbaniber for the rubor generated by the t of the exhaust, ie-ans for distributing Vaj'ci' throughout sai-l container, and reccndensing the vapor in said cooling and condensing apparatus,
4. Tn, a e inbinution with a chamber adapted to cooling; liquid, of steani conduits through said chamber i'or evaporatcooling liquid, of'r. container proaia-anos vapor generated by the heat of the exhaust;
and means for distributing the vapor throughout said container..
In a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with av chamber adapted to contain cooling liquid, of steam conduits consisting of a plurality of tubes passing through said chamber for carrying the exhaust steam so as to evaporate the cooling liquid, a container for the vapor Igenerated by the heat of the exhaust, said container being; provided with air cooled walls and being in communication with and arranged above said'cooling chamber, and means for distributing the vapor throughout said container,
6. In a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with a chamber adapted to contain cooling,f liquid, of steam'conduits Y:for exhaust steam consisting of a plurality of tubes passing through said chamber the number oli/which is determined by the amount of cooling liquid to be used, of a container for the vapor generated bythe heat of the exhaust, said container being in communication 1with and arranged above said cooling chamber and having air cooled Walls, and means for distributing the vapor throughout said container. "Y
7. ln a cooling and condensing apparatus, the combination with a chamber adapted to contain. cooling liquid, of steam conduits consisting of a, plurality oi tubes passing through said chamber, a container for the vapor generated by the heat of the exhaust said container having air cooled Walls and ay partition wall provided with openings separatingl the cooling chamber from the con tainer.
8. ln a cooling and condensing; apparatus, the combination Witha chamber adapted to contain cooling liquid, of steam conduits consisting of a plurality of tubes passing through said chamber, the number of said tubes being determined by the amount of cooling liquid to be used, a container for the vapor generated by the heat ot" the exhaust, a partition wall separating` the cooling' chamber and the container, and provided with a plurality of openings therethrough,
ilo
sonic adapted to adinit the vapor into the container and others adapted vto lead the condensed back into tbe coolingv cliarnbei', and a plurality ot air-circulatinstubes in said container for condensing the vapor,
said tubes being arranged in rsuch a Way that 'in combination, a chamber adapted to contain cooling liquid and provided Witli a steam inlet and with an outietctor tue con :iensed steam, e plurality of tubes 'passing through said chamber connecting the inlet and the outlet, e. container attached to the coding; chemise?, a partition Weil separe-ting 'che cooling chamber and the container and provided with e plurality of openings therethrough, some adapted to admit into the centaine?) the Vepocgenerated in the cooling chambei by the heeiJ of 'bhe exhaust and others adepte to leed the condensed steam back. into thecooling chamber, and e piureiity of eir-circsaiing tubes, in eaici container forr condensing the Vapor, said ings leadinginto ehe containei are left substantially free up to the ecp of' the conminer.
n estimony whereof have hereunto sesJ my hand and seal in the 'presence of two sub sc ribing Witnesses.
