Application filed March 27, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BRET R. HULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manhattan, in the county of Riley and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ball-Cocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to valves and has special reference to a valve which is adapted to be opened against water pressure and to be closed automatically with the pressure by means of a float.
This invention has for its object the production of such a valve that it can be readily disassembled to be repaired or cleaned.
Another object of this invention is the production of a washer with an aperture so positioned that the water pressure is guided in such a way so as not to force the valve closed.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a vertical section of the valve. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken along the line 22, in Fig. 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals 10 designates a support or wall of the tank or receptacle in which the valve is placed, which is provided with an opening through which the inlet pipe 11 is positioned. Threaded in the collar 12 on the inner end of the inlet pipe 11 is a valve casing 13, which is provided with an inlet compartment 1 1 and an outlet compartment 15. lhe upper dividing wall 16 of the valve casing is provided with an opening 17 which forms a valve seat for the valve head 18 which is secured to the lower end of the valve stem 19. A float 20 is secured to the upper end of the valve stem 19 and controls the movement of the valve stem in said valve casing.

Threaded into the inlet compartment 11 of the valve casing 13 is a washer 21 which has an opening 23 formed therein. Said opening 23 is formed at an angle to the transverse axis of the washer 21 thereby having its upper end out of alinement with the opening of the valve seat 17 It will be seen from the foregoing description that when the pressure in the tank, when the liquid is drawn from the tank that the float will drop causing the valve head 18 to come off of the seat 17, and the llquid can come up through the pipe 11 into the inlet compartment l-CL through the opening 23 through the opening 17 into the outlet compartment and then into the tank and will run in that path until the liquid raises the float, thereby bringing the valve head 18 tightly against the seat 17.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
A float valve comprising a casing formed of one piece having an inlet compartment and an outlet compartment, a float, a stem connected to said float, a valve carried by the lower end of said stem, a valve seat positioned intermediate the ends of said valve casing, a removable wall threaded in the lower end of said valve casing, said removable wall provided with a diagonally eX- tending discharge aperture for directing liquid passing through said casing to one side of said valve, said discharge aperture being positioned to one side of the longitudinal axis of said valve, whereby said liquid will have less tendency to close said valve against said valve seat, said diagonally extending aperture adapted to direct the liquid against the side wall of said casing for retarding the velocity of said liquid.
