WILLIAM S. PRICE, OF I-IUTGH INSON, KANSAS.
HEATING-STOVE.
Application filed November 13, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. PRICE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hutchinson, in the county of Reno and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in heating stoves and more particularly to that class adapted to burn hard or soft coal, wood, oil, or gas.
The object of this invention is to provide a stove having a damper mounted upon the upper end of the fire pot, as a means whereby air is admitted into the combustion chamber midway of the stove.
This heating stove is especially adapted for churches, schools, halls or the like, as it will produce a perfect combustion, a maximum heating power, and with a minimum waste of fuel.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combinations, and arrangements of part to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a front elevation of my improved heating stove, with parts broken away, Fig. 2, is a vertical sectional view of the same, Fig. 3, is a top plan view of a cir cular damper removed, and Fig. 1, is a top plan view of the fire pot removed.
Referring to the drawing by similar characters of reference, the numeral 10 denotes in general my improved heating stove, which consists of an inner fire pot 11, combustion chamber 12, and an outer casing 13, secured by suitable means to a base 1 1. The base 1 1, has the customary legs to support the entire stove, while. upon its upper top is a flange 15, said base having a draft opening 16 controlled by a slide damper 17, which controls the draft, produced by the opening 18 in the base. The flange 15 is for the reception of the lower terminal of the fire pot 11, while the upper end of the fire pot has formed thereon a flange 19, having a series of apertures 20 formed therein to correspond with those formed in the damper 21. This damper 21 is slidably mounted upon the flange 19 of the fire pct 11 and is held in position by means of lugs 22 formed upon the inner face and at the upper edge of the fire pot.
Resting upon the flange 19 and in close Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 29, 1914.
Serial No. 800,749.
relation with the damper 21 is a combustion chamber 12, the lower terminal of which, limits the displacement of the damper 21, while the damper 21 together with the lugs 22 also serve to limit the displacement of the combustion chamber 12. This combustion chamber 12 also has formed thereon an outwardly extending chute 23, which is closed by a double door 21 and which serves as a means whereby fuel may be fed into thefire pot. The chute 23 is so arranged to make the interior of the combustion chamber symmetrical as clearly shown in Fig. 2, of the drawings and designated by the letter S. The chute is of a suitable length so as to extend beyond the outer face of the casing 13.
Formed directly below the chute 23 and in the front wall of the combustion chamber is a slot 25, through which the damper 21 is operated by means of a handle 21, while a corresponding slot 26 is formed in the casing 13 to cooperate with the slot 25. Covering the upper end of the combustion chamber is a cap 27 having small apertures 28 formed at intervals around the same, while in its center it has the customary aperture 29 for the reception of a pipe 30, the draft through which, is regulated by a check damper 31 mounted on the inner face of the cap 27 Secured by suitable means to the previously mentioned base 14: is the casing 13 which surrounds the entire combustion chamber and fire pot leaving a space therebetween, this casing being cylindrical in cross section. This casing is covered by a cap 32 having apertures 33 formed therein and around the same, while in its center it has a corresponding aperture to that of the cap 27 covering the combustion chamber and for the reception of the previously mentioned pipe 30, while in its front and rear sides at suitable intervals are apertures 34: which admit cool air into the casing and which will be more fully described in the operation of this stove which follows :The fuel is supplied through the chute into the fire pot, the apertures in the casing at its lower end at front and back, permitting cool air to circulate around the combustion chamber and fire pot. The air then warmed passes out through the apertures inthe covering, which caps the casing, thus producing a perfect circulation.
To assure full control of the fire there are three dampers, the greatest draft being given by the damper in the base, while if only a slight draft be desired, the damper midway will give the desired effect, While the third damper located in the top of the combustion chamber is used to check the headway of the fire. The covering that caps the combustion chamber, having apertures formed therein gives forth drafts of hot air direct from the interior of the combustion chamber thus assuring that the heated air already in the jacket will be forced out more rapidly were it not for these apertures. It should be understood in this connection however that various minor changes in the details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
From the foregoing disclosure taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a heating stove is provided, which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such stoves.
Having thus fully described this invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In a heating stove, a base supporting a fire pot having a flange formed thereon with a series of apertures formed therein, a damper slidably mounted upon the said flange and having a series of apertures formed therein to cooperate with those in the said flange lugs formed upon the said fire pot to limit the displacement of the said damper, a combustion chamber mounted upon the said flange and cooperating with the said lugs to limit the displacement of the said damper, a cylindrical metal casing mounted upon the said base, the wall of the combustion chamber, and the casing being provided with alining slots for the damper actuating rod, and means whereby fuel may be fed into the said fire pot.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
