IMPROVEMENT IN COOPERS' CROZE.

To all rwhom tt may concern:

Beitknown that we, VINCENT APPLEGATE, MAR- LrNn P. JACOBS, and SAMUEL F. ROBY, of the county 0f Harrison and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coopers V-Crozes; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a coopers croze for cutting th'e grooves in a barrel for the insertion of the heads.

e In order to i enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction andoperation, referring to the annexed drawingin Which- Figure l is a view of the under side of our machine;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the knife;

Figures 4 and 5 are 'enlarged views of the headblocks; and

Figure 6 is a section of the machine.

A represents a segmental plate, of any suitable dimensions, having on both sides, along the outer edge, a raised bead, B, said bead on the upper side extending along the ends of the plate; also,

lOn the under side of the plate A is secured the bitholder C, curved on its outerv side, as shown, and provided on this'side with a V-shaped rib, a.

Through an opening in this biteholder projects the The knife D is adjusted to any depth of groove desired, and secured by a set-screw, G, passing through the head-block E andbearing against the inner angle of the knife.

This device is operated by hand, and the groove may be made at any distance from the edge of the barrel, if so desired, by making the bit-holder C adjustable ,up or down from the plate A.

Having thus fully described our invention,

'What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the plate A,.bitholder C, with rib a, V- shaped bit or knife D. and head-block E, with rib b, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein Set forth.
