DIVISION-BOARD.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, IVINFI LD GOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at KansasCity, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented oer tain new and useful Improvements in Di vision-Boards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which'it' appertains to make and use the same, reference'being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the; letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part'of this specification.

My invention relates to divisionboards for hay presses, and has for its principal object to provide a board of this character, which is simple andeconomical', but strong in construction, and comprises means" for facilitating the application of tie wires to the bales.

In accomplishing this object, I have pro-v vided improved detailsof structure, the preferred forms of'which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure I is a perspective view'of apart of a baling case equipped with-division boards constructed in accordance with my'f invention. FigII is an enlarged side elevation of the board. Fig. III is a longitudinal section of one of the board slats, particularly illustrating the wire channels. Fig. IV is an enlarged detail perspective view of a part of the board, showing a wire channel and particularly the beveled mouth thereof.

forming a chute through which the bales of hay or other material are adapted for travel, after they have'been pressed in a compression chamber. It is customary in machines of this character to provide means for dividing the compressed material to form bales of desired length, and'usually comprising boards, which are dropped into the case adjacent the compression chamber.

The board, which I claim as my invention, comprises slats 5, which are preferably three in number, and spaced to provide recesses 6 therebetween; the ends, of the slats being beveled at their ends in order to provide S. the rails 8 are arranged in pairs on opposite sides of the board, so'that both faces of the board are the sameandithe paired rails are secured in place by common bolts 17 which 'extend through the slats and through the lips of the rails on opposite sides ofthe board. By arranging-the'rails in this man-v ner, and sharpening both ends of the slats, it is immaterialzwhich end of'the board is projected into thefcase, as with this arrangement either end may serve as the top or bottom of the board.

In order to facilitate the projection of the tie wires through'the rail sockets, I prefer to bevel the rails at the ends of the sockets, as indicated at 18, so that when a wire is started into the socket it may strike the beveled edge and be guided into the socket channel.

In using the board with an ordinary hay press, the board is lowered into the compression chamber in the ordinary manner, and the material pressed thereagainst, so that the board and material are forced through the baling case. When sufficient material. has accumulated back of each board, a succeeding board is placed and tie wires passed around the bale; the ends of the wires being projected through the socket in the rails 8, so that they may be passed entirely around the bales andjtiedv Should one of the slats in the board be broken, the pieces may here- 25 having a socket portion seated in said groove, and lips secured to the body member by Letters-Patent, is:
