amue/wtoa Grimm:
ARTHUR E. BLAKE, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
BOTTLE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed July 5, 1912.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. BLAKE, a citizen 'of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroeand State of New York. have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle attachments and has for an object to provide a poison indicating device that can be readily connected with the stopper .of a bottle and which will be provided with pointed or spur like indicating portions which will protrude beyond the neck of the bottle and beyond the stopper whereby to be positively engaged by the hand and to warn one who may be handling the bottle in the dark that the sam contains a poisonous or dangerous drug that should be used with utmost can: tion. I Another object of the in'\ ention is'topro- 'vide a poison indioating attachment that will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and of such form that it may be readily connected with or disconnected from any' standard construction of bottle stopper, such as an ordinary cork.
In the drawing forming a portion of this application, and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the attachment. Fig." 2 is a plan View of the blank from whiclr the form of the invention shown is constructed. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a portion of a bottle and through the stopper, showing the application of the invention,
The form of invention shown comprises an indicating member (3 constructed from a single piece of flat sheet metal or any other suitable well known material that may be found most desirable for the purpose, and having a plurality of radial projections 7. This member, as previously stated is constructed of a single blank of material and the said blank being of pentagon configuraiion. being bounded preferably by straight walls 8 which are slit on diagonal lines along the radial projection 7 as shown at f) and then bent downwardly, whereby to expose their sharp corners or points 10 and to assist the points 11 of the projections 7 toward maximizing. the guarding surfaces Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.

of the article. The member is provided in its central portion with a spiral-like portion or corkscrew 12, the latter being adapted to be engaged in the cork stopper 5, whereby to hold the latter and the indicating attachment operatively connected together; The cork stopper 5 is of a diameter whereby it will lie wholly within the central portion of the member 6 so that the radial projections or points 7 of the member 'will extend beyond the sides of the cork stopper and slightly beyond the neck of the bottle. whereby the hand of the one manipu- "lating the bottle will be brought into.,direct contact with the sharp extremities 11 of the bones and the word Poison as shown,
serving as an additional warning to the. user of the bottle.
-I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a
poison indicator for bottle stoppers comprising a single blank of sheet material having a plurality of sides and slit at each corner to present substantially V-points' at the corners, intermediate bendable portions between the corners, bent downwardly and at right angles thereto to lie at the sides-of the stopper and terminating inrelativcly sharp points lying below the plane of the V-points at said corners of the blank, and a stopper attaching portion carried by said blank.
2. As a new article of n'mnufacture, a poison indicator for bottle stoppers comprising a single blank of sheet metal materially of pentagon configuration and slit at eachcorner to present substantially V- points at the corners. intermediate bendable portions between the corners havingv a straight longitudinal edge, and bent downwardly and at right angles thereto to lie at the sides of the stopper and terminating in relatively sharp points, lying below the plane of the V-points at said corners of the blank and a stopper attaching portion being inserted or Withdrawn from the cork by gripping the sides'and straight longitudinal edges of the downwardly bent portions and rotating the blank.
ARTHUR E. BLAKE.
