Description
A. VERBECK.
. Whiffetree Hook. Ne. 112,096. Patented Feb. 21,1871.
anni site AMos vnnnon, or STERLING, ILLINOIS.
Leners Patent No. 112,096, dated-Febuary 21, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHIFFLETREE-HOOKS.
The Schedule referred' to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may con-cern Be it known that I, AMos VERBEGK, of the city of Sterling, in the county of Whiteside and State of Illinois, have` invented certain new and useful Improvements in WhifHetree-Hooks; and I do` hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of referencel marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a whifletree-hook, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a side view of my invention in position for putting on the trace.
Figure 2 is a perspectivs View ofthe same.
Figure 3 is a perspective view when in use.
Figure 4 is a side view ofthe saine.
Figures 5 and 6 are detached views of the two parts forming the whiletree-hook.
B represents a bolt, provided at one end with a screw-thread in the ordinary manner, for the purpose of being screwed into the end of the whilletree, which is done to within half or three-quarters or" an inch of the head D; at the other -end of the bolt.
This head is in the shape of a short'bar, as shown in the drawings, and when the bolt is fastened into the end of the whifiletree this head. or bar should expivoted a bar or pendulum, A.
The length of this pendulum and the point at which it is pivoted should be so gauged that when the peudulum hangs downward, as shown in figs. 3 and 4, the distance from a line drawn longitudinally through the center ofthe bolt to the end ot' the pendulum should be about the sanne as the distance from said line to the upper end ofthe head D.
When the trace is to be put on the pendulum A is turned up, as shown in g. 1, and as soon as the trace is to be put on it is allowed to fall down of its own weight, when the trace is secured and prevented from slipping oi. l
" rllhe trace is taken o in the same manner' by turning the pendulum upward.
Or the pendulum may be pivoted so tight that it will require some force to turn it downward again when the trace is put on.
Having thus fully described my invention,
T'Vhat I claim new, and desire to secure by Leters Patent, is-
The'combination of the screw-bolt B with head D and pendulum A, constructed and arranged as described, so that when said head and pendulum point inopposite directions their outerends shall be about equal distance from a line drawn longitudinally through the center of the bolt, substantially as herein setforth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aiix my signature hereto in presence of two witnesses.
AMOS VERBEUK.
