Description

.waited gime ateut diijiw.
JAMES H. PRATT, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND BENJXMIN F. LARRABEE, 0F SAME PLAGE.
Letters Patent No.l 112,074, dated February 21, 1872 IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-WRlNGlNG' HOOKS.
The Schedule referred to inv theserLetters Patent and making part of the same.
I, JAMES H. PRATT, of Lynn, in the county ot' Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Gl0tl1es-\Vri|1ging Hooks, of' which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my invention attac-hed to a wash-tub, and
Figure 2, asimilar view of the same detached.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheap and simple attachment fora wash-tub, to assist the washer in wringing out the fabrics by h and; and
lt consists ot' a simple hook providedfwith two projections and a set-screw, by means of which it is attached to a wash-tub, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
A represents a hook rigidly attached to the bifurcations or projections B B, all of which are constructed of galvanized iron.
I) represents a thumb-screw, which passes through one of the projections B.
The hook A is attached to a tub, &c., by placing the project-ions B over the edge of the saine, as shown in tig. l, and turning the screw D, which bears against the side of' the tub, until the whole is secured iirnily.
E represents a metallic plate or shield, attached by a chain or otherwise to the hoolc A, the object of which plate is to provide a rigid bearing for the end ot' screw I), thereby protecting the side of the tub.
In wringing fabrics they are engaged with the hook Aand twisted over the tub, thereby enabling the use of both hands in wringing, the hook acting as a third hand in holding one end 0i' the twist.
By thisnieans much more power can be exerted with less effort than when one hand is used at each end ot the twisted fabric, and the wringing operation is much facilitated.
The hook A maybe rigidly attached tothe tub if desired, and can be cheaply made.
Having thus fully described my invention,
That I claim as new, and desire to secured by Letters Patent, is-
The hook A, provided with projections B, set-screw I), and shield E, substantially as and for the purpose set fort-h.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses: JAMES H. PRATT.
