CASTING APPARATUS FOR DENTAL CASTINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Application filed December 21, 1912. Serial No. 737,968.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HEINRICH SCI-IWEIT- znn, a subject of the German Emperor, residing in the city, county, and State-of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Casting Apparatus for Dental Castings, of which the following is a specification.
Casting machines operated with gaseous fluid pressure as a rule have an upper section which can be raised and lowered. If the upper flask section of such a casting apparatus is raised and held in an elevated position we speak of the fire position of the apparatus as the firing or melting of the cast metal can only be done when the flask sections are separated. Contrary to this we speak of the -pressure position of a casting apparatus when the upper flask section is lowered in order to make a seal against the lower section of a pressure flask. Various means as for example a rack, bolt, or spring have been devised heretofore for holding the upper section in elevated position.
The object of my invention is an easy change of fire and pressure position of the casting apparatus by the use of a prop supporting the upper section of the flask in the elevated position.
Figure 1 is a lateral view of the apparatus holding the upper section of the pressure flask in elevated or fire position. Fig. 2 shows a modified construction in elevated position of the upper section of the flask. Fig. 3 illustrates the connection of a guide prop with an extension of the upper flask section holding the latter in elevated position. Figs. 4 and 5 indicate the pressure position of the upper section of the flask. Fig. 6 shows the casting apparatus with parts of the base and flask in vertical section.
A support of the upper flask section of a casting apparatus by means of an upright prop is especially useful in casting machines of the type described by myself in U. S. Patent No. 1,046,113 where a direct source of pressure is used. The adjustment of the prop may be varied; first, the prop, P, Fig. 1 may be simply posted into perpendicular position between the base, B, and the metal extension, A, which carries the upper flask section, N; second, the prop, P Figs. 1 and i, may be hinged to the base and the free end swung under the shoulder, K, of the exten sion, A, holding the upper flask section; third, the prep, 1", Figs. 2 and 5, may be hinged to the extension, A, and the free end, E, swung on top of the base, B, thus holdmg the upper flask section elevated; fourth, the prop, P Figs. 3 and 6, may be stationary connected with the metal extension, A, rest on the top part of the base, B, when the upper section is elevated and turned in axial direction, and pass down in the guide hole, Ii -R when turned back over said guide hole. A rotation of the upper flask section in its elevated position around the Vertical axis will always free said section from the support by removing one end of the prop from its point of adjustment.
In the preferred construction illustrated in Figs. 3 and 6 I provide a perforation from R to R in the upper bracket of the base, B, for the passage of the prop, P. In the elevated position (Fig. 3) the prop can be moved out from the perforation and off from this direction by an axial movement of the upper flask section around its vertical axis. The end, E, of the prop, P, then rests in the elevated (fire) position upon the upper surface of the base, B, and thus holds the flask section in elevated position. An axial return of the upper flask section Will bring the prop, P, back into the position over the opening, R, in which position the said flask section is allowed to pass down guided by the prop, P fitting into the perforation, R-R- Having now fully described my invention I claim:
In a casting apparatus for dental castings and the like having a base and a pressure flask consisting of an upper and a lower section, a guide prop attached to the upper flask section for guiding the upper flask section in its plunging movement and structural means allowing for the arrest and release of the upper flask section in elevated position by a variation of the position of the upper flask section in axial direction.
