FEED-BAG.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 11.12914.
Application led March 16, 1914; Serial No. 825,100.
r which is so constructed as to facilitate the maintenance of feed in the device and have a resilient cushion or pad around the mouth of the receptacle.
A further object is the provision of a metallic vessel used in forming a feed bag of the form and construction hereinafter set forth.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. f
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a feed bag em bodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken on line 2-2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental section taken through the upper edge of the vessel and cushion secured thereto.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a metallic vessel 4 formed substantially in the shape shown and provided with an open mouth 5 at its upper side, a constricted portion 6 near said mouth and rounded corners 7 at its bottom. A supporting flange S is also formed at the bottom of the vessel 4 substantially as shown and formed of a length to support the bottom 9 of the vessel slightly above an article upon which the device rests. The vessel 4 is preferably oval shaped at its upper portion and substantially circular at its bottom portion. The rear side of the vessel is more flaring than the front side and provides a form conforming substantially with the head of a horse. The front side of the vessel 4 is provided with perforations 10 adapted to furnish air to a horse or other animal, during the use of the device. The upper-edge 11 of vessel 4 is rebent over the upper edgerof a sheet 12 of yieldable material such as leather. The re bent portion 11 grips the upper edger of sheet l2 securely holding such edge in position. The centralportion of sheet 12 is inwardly bowed over vessel 4 forming an annular chamber between Vsuch bowed portion and the corresponding portion of vessel 4. In said chamber is a resilient material 18, formed of felt, hair or like substance. @ver the lower edge of sheet 12 is an annular fas-` tener 14. The upper edge of fastener 14 securely clamps the lower edge of sheet 12 holding the same in position. rlhe lower edge portion of member 14 is soldered, or otherwise secured to the inner wall of vessel 4.
From the construction set forth it will be seen that a metallic feed bag substantially fitting the head of a horse, or other animal,
is formed and provided with a cushionk around its open mouth to prevent injury to the horses head. The cushion and constricted portion 6 of the vessel also facilitates maintaining the feed in the bag during the process' of feeding'should the horse ineline the device. .The rounded lower side and bottom portion of the vessel 4 forms a rounded corner so that none of the feed can be hidden in a corner as would be the case were the sides and bottom of the vessel connected at a sharp angle. Ears 15 are secured to the upper edge of vessel 4 providing a means to which a strap, not shown, or its equivalent mayv be fastened to secure the device in operative position on the head of a horse-or other animal.v
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from' the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of `such variations and modifications as come within `the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A feed bag comprising a container having an open mouth at its upper side; a flexiblefstrip secured to lthe inner wall of said container adj acent'its upper edge, said strip being outwardly bowed; and a stuiing in said outward bow of seid strip to form e cushionD substantially es described.
2. A feed bag comprising a container having an open mouth at its upper side; an a-nnuler cushion around said mouth, the upper edge portion of said vessel being rebent over the upper edge of said cushion; and an annuler member' secured to the inner wall of seid vessel and extending over the lower edge of said cushion securing the latter to said vessel, substantially as described.
3. A feed beg comprising a. container' heving an open mouth at its upper side; an annular inwardly `bowed sheet member disposed around seid mouth, the upper edge of said Vessel being rebent over the upper edge of seid sheet member; :in annular fastener secured to the inner well of seid Vessel and inwardly over the lower edge of seid sheet member; and a. resilient member between the bowed portion of said sheet member and the adjacent portion of seid Vessel, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof 1k have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
