In trunks of this type it is very desirable to securely bind the different parts together in order to prevent torsional strain or working of the parts with relation to each other and bind the parts, when in closed position, into a rigid structure.
` It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a trunk fitting which is adapted to bind the adjacent sections of a trunk, of the before mentioned type, together so that they will resist twisting or torsional strains and cannot Work with relation to each other.
A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk fitting which is so constructed as to automatically lockthe sections of the trunk together when the said sections are swung to closed positions.
l A further object of the invention is to `provide a trunk fitting which is ofV very simple construction, is well adapted for the purpose desired and which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
With the above and other objects in view, theinvention consists of the improved trunk fitting and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, `and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference` characters indicate the same parts in all of the views: Figure 1 is a side view of the upper portion of a trunk provided with the improved trunk fitting, the cover of the trunk being also indicated in open position by dotted lines Fig; 2 is an enlarged side view of the lower parts of the fitting shown attached to portions of a trunk, a portion of the fitting being in section, the view also indicating the wardrobe section as being in partly open position by dotted lines; Fig. `3 is a rear view of the fitting; and Fig. 4 is a top view `of vthe lower members of the fitting.

The fitting is divided horizontally, centrally to form the upper member 12 and the lower half ofthe fitting isdivided vertically, centrally to form the two lower members 13 and let. The lower member 14 is provided with alprojecting tongue 16 which is adapted to enter the recess 17 of thev member 13, the recess being formed by the raised portion of the fitting and the outer faceof the wardrobe section of the trunk. The upper member is also provided with projecting tongues 18 which enter the recesses 19 and 20 respectively of the lower members 13 and 14 v and lock the two saidlower members securelytogether. All of the tongues are of sufficient size to fit the recesses snugly and are tapered toward their advancing ends to easily enter the recesses. The tongues are also offset inwardly from the outer surface of the rib to provide for the outer surfaces of the portion of the rib of each member being in alinement with relation to each other portion.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the trunk fitting when mounted upon a trunk and in closed position will securely lock the three portions of the trunk together and that the lower trunk sections cannot be opened until the trunk cover has been swung to open position.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A trunk fitting, consisting of a three part member provided with means for locking two of the parts together while the said two parts are engaged by the third part, each one of said parts having a locking means forming relatively an immovable portion of said part.
