Description

J. H. RAY. SILO. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 12, 1914.
v Patented Nov. 24, 19141 JAMES H. RAY, OF HIGGINS, TEXAS.
SILO.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 12, 1914. Serial No. 344,762.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES H. RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Higgins, in the. county of Lipscomb and State pf Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silos, of which the 7 following is a specification.
provision of a silo which is constructed from This invention relates to improvements in silos.
' The primary object of the invention is the cement or other like material and which is provided with suitable reinforcing means.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a silo having a novelty constructed and reinforcing doorway designed to provide a ladder by means of which a person may obtain access to the upper end of the said silo.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a reinforced cement silo provided with spaced rods disposed upon opposite sides of the doorway andhorizontal spaced rings embedded in said silo for the purpose of reinforcing the same and having rungs extending across the doorway to produce a-ladder, the alternate of the rungs be-- ing extended forwardly through the side of the silo and constituting attaching means for engagement with a chute or other means whereby the contents of the silo m ay be discharged. a
A still further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use and readily accessible.
Vvith the above and other objects in view, the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, claimed and illustrated in' the draw-ring in whichthe figure is a perspective view of my invention.
Referring to the drawing by similar characters of reference through the several views, the numeral 5 designates generally my improved silo which is preferably of cylindrical formation and constructed either of cement or other like substance, the same being provided with the usual doorway 6 recessed at its inner side as at 7 for engagement with the removably sliding door panels 8. The opposite sides of the doorwav 6 are reinforced by the vertical rods 9 which are embedded in the material ,of the silo ad jacent the opposite sides of said door-way;
A plurality of horizontalspaced rings ,I lO
are likewise embedded in the material of the silo, completely encircling the latter within the walls thereof. The inner ends of these rings 10 are bent as at 11, to embrace the vertical reinforcing rods 9. The opposite sides of the rings 10 are connected by a strand of wire 12 which is attached to the said rings 10 as shown at 13. The reinforcmg rods 9 are connected by equi-spaced main rungs 1d and intermediate rungs 15 which extend across the doorway as clearly shown in the drawing, forming a ladder bymeans of which a person may obtain access to the upper end-of the silo for any purpose. The ends of these rungs 14 and "15 embrace the reinforcing rods 9 as shown by the numerals 16, while the terminals of the rungs 15, which are disposed between the rungs 14, are extended forwardly through-the side of the silo, providing parallel supporting arms 17, formed with terminal eyes 18 by means of which a suitable chute (not shown in the drawing) may be attached to the silo at any desired height for the purpose of assifting in the removal of the contents of the s1 0.
From the foregoing disclosures it will be manifest that a silo is provided'which' will fulfil all the necessary requirements of such, a device. It should also be understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to'-within the scope of the appended claims without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
What is claimed is 1. In a silo such as described, a cylindrical body portion formed of plastic material, said silo having a doorway formed in one side thereof, spaced vertical reinforcing rods embedded in the body of said silo upon opposite sides of the doorway, rings em-.
Patented nov ce-rare;
minal eyes provided upon said arms and a strand connecting said rings upon the side of the silo opposite to the doorway.
2. In a silo, a body portion having a doorway formed therein, vertical reinforcing rods disposed upon opposite'sides of the doorway, rings connected to said reinforcing rods and embedded in the silo, a strand of wire connecting said rings, inain rungs eonneeting the reinforcing rods intermediate the rings and extending across said doorway, and intermediate rungs connecting the reinforcing rods and contacting with the ends of the rings, and forwardly extending arms extending from the ends of the intermediate 15 rungs and mojeetinp; through the side of the silo upon opposite sides of the doorway, said arms having eyes provided therein for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof he aflixes his signa- 20 ture in presence of two Witnesses.
