To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Tnooon KOMAN, a'subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to horse shoes of a removable calk type and has for its object to provide a horse shoe of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, with means to prevent accidental shifting or displacement of the calks while the shoe is in use, at the same time setting'up provisions to permit of the convenient removal of the calk when the occasion so requires, so a new calk can be substituted, or the shoe fitted with a different character of calk if desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a calked horse shoe which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, eflicient in its use, and inexpensive.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views :F igure 1 is a perspective view of a calked horse shoe in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation, broken away, of a calk portion of a shoe. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a toe calk. Fig. at is a like view of the heel calk.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes the body of a shoe having the heels 2, formed with openings 3, having threaded walls, for engagement with the threaded shanks i, of the heel calks 5. Each of said calks consist of a yoke-shaped member 6, having the arms thereof connected together by a transverse integral web 7, which is disposed centrally with respect to said arms.

The toe portion of the shoe is indicated at 7 and which is formed with a toe clip 8 and further provided at each side of said clip 8, with a notch formed with. flat side walls 9, and a bottom wall having one portion thereof as at 10 flat and the other portion thereof Specification of Letters Patent.

as at 11 beveled. The flattened portion 10 starts at the lower face of the shoe body 1, and the beveled portion 11 terminating at the inner face of the body portion 1 of the shoe. The lower face of the toe portion 2 of the shoe, central thereof, is provided with a pocket 12, the bottom wall thereof as indicated at 13, extends toward the inner edge of the shoe at an upward inclination and said lnner edge of the shoe is beveled as at 14:.

The toe calk comprises a tapering plate 14 hav ng a pair of end members 15, 16, which pro ect therefrom and formed integral with the forward edge of said plate 14 and the end members 15, 16 is a coupling member 17 The member 17 conforms in contour to the edge at the toe portion of the shoe body and sa1d member 17 is flush with said edge. The member 17 as well as the end member 15, 16 depend from the plate 14 and said end members 15, 16 are disposed at an inclination due to the tapering of the plate 1-1. Formed integral with the plate 1-1 and projecting upwardly therefrom, is a pair of adjusting lugs 18, each of which is provided with a beveled portion 19, whereby said beveled portion will over-hang the other portion of its respective lug. The said lugs 18 are adapted to be seated in notches formed in the edge of the shoe body and the over-hanging portions of sa1d lugs are adapted to engage the beveled portions 11 of the inner wall of the notches.

The plate 14 is slitted as at 20, 21, and the material freed by said slits which is indicated at 22 has projecting therefrom an upwardly extending inclined threaded securing member 23 adapted to extend through the pocket 12. Mounted upon the securing member 23 is a nut 24, and which when screwed home will detachably secure the toe calk to the toe portion of a shoe body, the lugs 18 co-acting with the securing member 23 and nut 24 to maintain the toe calk in position.

The beveled portion of the inner edge of the shoe body 1 enables the nut 24 to be positioned in such manner that it will not interfere with the animals hoof.

What I claim is I A horse shoe comprising the combination of a body portion thereof having its edge at the toe formed with spaced notches and its lower face at the toe provided with a pocket opening at the inner edge of the shoe body, the inner wall of each of said notches having a portion thereof flat and the remaining portion beveled, of a toe calk pr0- vided with a pair of lugs having over-hanging portions, said lugs seated in said notches and engaging the beveled portions of the inner Walls thereof, the calk further provided With an upwardly inclined securing member seated in and projecting from said pocket, and means mounted upon said securing member and in connection with the latter and said lugs for detachably connecting the oalk to the lower face at the toe portion of 10 the shoe body.
