PETER M. COPPS, OF HAILEYBURY, ONTARIO, CANADA.
IB-LASTING-CARTRIDGE.
To @ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, PETER M Corrs, a subject of the Kingof Great Britain, residing at Haileybury, sing, Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blasting-Cartridges, of which the following is a specification.,
My invention relates to improvements in explosive shells.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a means by .which the shell can be quickly put in place or removed in case of a misfirewith less danger to the operator.
Another object is to provide a means by which the number o'f misires can be considerably reduced.
the shell 1, and
'a misire. .As the fuse 9 is With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction and combination of partsI hereinafter more fully described with the aid of the accompanying drawings.
igure 1 is a side sectional elevation, F ig. 2 a front elevation, and F ig. 3 a detail.
l designates a shell having a closed end 2 and an opentapped end 3 to receive the threaded plug 4. The plug 4 has a head 5, preferably of square or hexagonal section to allow of its being easily screwed into also an upwardly projecting'lug 6 which has holes 7 and 8. The fuse 9 is held against the lug 6 by a wire 10 orother suitable means, the wire passing through the hole 7 and around the said fuse.
'he fuse 9 passes downward through the hole 11 in the plug 4, through the felt packing 12 and cardboard packing 13 into the charge'l/iand terminates in the cap 15. The draw-wire 16 is hooked through the hole 8, 1nd the end 17 is preferably ltwisted around the wire 16. A suitable handle 1S may also be formed at the upper end of the draw` aire, which is preferably 4made of light wire as shown in.l `ig. 3,'so that the end 17 can be easily attached to the lug 6. By means of the draw-wire 16 the shell 1 can be easily lowered into the hole or removed in case 'of held against the Specification of Letters Patent.

lug 6 by the wire l() there is very little4 mlsire.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and effective means has been devised for expediting the handling of explosive shells, and moreover the construction insures against a large percentage of the misfires experienced with the ordinary shell.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A blasting cartridge comprising in combination, a cylindrical casing adapted to be filled with an explosive element, said\ cylindrical casing being closed at one end and having a threaded aperture at the other end thereof, a screw plug adapted to fit and 65 close the threaded aperture in said cylindrical Vcasing and having a longitudinally extending drill hole therethrough, a lug carried by said screw plug and positioned at one side of said drill hole, said lug being pro-\7\o vided with two transversely extending drill holes, a detonating capin said cylindrical shell, a fuse connected with said det'onating through the K longitudinally extending drill hole, a wire disposed in one of said transversely extending drill holes and supporting said fuse against said lug, and a wire disposed in the other `of said transversely extending drill hole and provided thereof -whereby the shell may be lifted.
2. A blasting cartridge consisting of a l cylindrical casing closed at one. end and provided at the other end with a threaded aperture, a threaded plug closing said aperture and having a fuse hole therethrough, a lug carried by said threaded plug, a fuse, a fuse support carried by said lug, and a handle Wire carried by said lug. In testimony whereof I aflix my ture in the presence of two witnesses.
