This invention relates to new and useful improvements 1n bottle closures and more particularly to an air-tight bottle cap, and

the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be quickly and readily applied to use and removed when desire A further object of the invention resides in providing a cap or closure which is designed to snap into engagement with the bottle neck when disposed to its closed po-' sition whereby to provide. an air-tight closure which is not adapted for casual disengagement.

Still another object of the invention resides in providing a metal bottle cap having a plurality of yielding tongues or the like thereon for engagement with an external annular groove formed in the bottle neck.

A further object resides in providing a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very eflicient in use.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in' the specification and claims.

In the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, Figure l is a side elevation of a bottle cap applied to use and constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section as seen on line 3-3 of Fig.1; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my. improved closure in a removed position with respect to the bottle neckfand Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of'a slightly modified form of the invention.

In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which,

1 indicates a bottle or vessel of any desired type having a neck 2 thereon, said neck being provided with an external annular groove 3 arranged in a plane slightly below the lip or outer peripheral edge of said neck.

'A metal cap or closure 4: is provided which fits over the upper or open end of said neck and the side walls ofwhich are designed to project over the outer periphery of the neck to a plane below the plane of the annular groove 3.1 The inner face of the top of the cap 4 has a resilient'disk 5 secured therein which is preferably formed of cork whereby to engage the peripheral edge or lip of the neck and afford air tight connection between the cap and the neck whenthe former is appliedto the latter.

My invention primarily contemplates the provision of a means on a cap for engagement' with the annular groove 3 whereby to yieldingly retain said cap in position on the neck and to this .end, the wall-of the cap or closure 4 adjacent its lower edge is provided with pairs of vertically spaced apart slots 6. These pairs of slots are arranged at regular intervals throughout the periphery of the wall of the cap, there being as many pairs as are found desirable. In the drawing I have shown three sets, but any number more than one may be provided to carry out the object. These slots 6 are enlarged at their ends in double tions 7 on the captobeengaged with said,

In view of these conditions, the
