BAKERS ,PEELQ To all whom imam/cancer:
Be it known that I, ANTON Po'roLsKY, citizen of the United States, res1d1ng at St. Louis, State of Missouri, .have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Bakers Peels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying, drawings, forming a part hereof. v 2
My invention has relation to improvementsin bakers peels; and it consists in the novel construction of peel more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claims. 2
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of my improved peel, parts being broken away; Fig. 2 isv a side edge view thereof; Fig. 3
1s a transverse section on the line,3 .3 of
Fig.v ,1; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional detail on the line 44 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5
line 55 of Fig. 1. v
The-object of my invention is to construct a bakers-peel which willnot warp under the heat. to which it is usually subjected; one. which is durable and will last a maxiis an enlarged. cross-sectional detail on the "mum length of time; one whichwhen worn may be readily removed from its handle and a new peel substituted; .one provided with improved'means of locking the handle to the peel; and one possessing further and other advantages better apparent from a d'etaileddescription of the invention which is as follows: 1
Referring to the drawings, 1, represents the body portion of the peel, the same being provided at its rear edge in a transverse groove a, said groove receiving the basal tongues b of the inner terminal stiifeners or corner pieces 2, the inner ends or sides of said stifieners being provided with tongues c which enter corresponding grooves 01 formed in the adjacent faces of the guidestrips 3, 3, said strips being extended. a suitable distance beyond the stiifeners 2, 2 and serving as guides for the handle of the peel. The bases of the strips 3 terminate in tongues b which are likewise received by the transverse groove a of the member 1, the
base of the handleterminates in a tongue 6- which'freely enters the groove a, the handle Specification of Letters fatentf PatentedNov. 10, 1914. Application filed FebruarylS, 1914. steam; 818,498.
one of the strips 3. The link 6 is flatand only partially enters the groove it, the portion projecting v out; of the groove being in position, to be readily seized betweenthe thumb and forefinger. To remove the handle, the nutn is first unscrewed, after which thelink 6'is swung out of its. groove h, (dotted position Fig. 1) and, by means of said link the bolt is withdrawn, thus releasing the handle 4, whereupon the latter may be pulled out of the member 1 and out from between the strips 3, 3 and attached to a newpeel. g a
The grain of the main body of the peel or member 1 is in the direction of its length, or parallel to the length'of the handle 4, whereas the grain of the stifl?eners 2 is at right angles thereto or across the member 1. Since woodwarps inlines parallel to the grain, it follows that the pieces 2 willarrest any tendency on the part of the peel 1 to warp, thus preserving the desired flatness in thepeel. Preferably, the stiffeners 2, 2 are formed of oak, the member 1 being.
of poplar, though I do not wish to be re-1 stricted to any particular kind of wood or material entering into the construction of the peel. Again, while 'it is preferable to form the grooves in the members 1 and 3, and the tonguesin the members 2, 2, a reversal of this arrangement would not be a departure from the nature and spirit of my invention. With the exception of the removable handle 4, the severalparts are united together with glue or similar adhesive into which the tongues Z), 6, 0, are dipped before insertion into their respective grooves, as well understood in the art. The peel proper is reinforced and stiffened by transverse dowels or bars 7 as shown.
Having described my invention what I claim is I 1. A. bakers peel comprising a body memher or peel proper, stiffener members at the of secured thereto by a tongue and groove connection, strips coupled to the inner adj a cent terminals of thestifleners' and to the" body member and extending beyond stifieners, a handle inserted between said strips and engaging the body member, and means for locking the handle to said strips.
2. A bakers peel comprising a body member or peel proper, stifiener membersat the opposite corners of the inner terminal thereof secured thereto by a tongue and groove connection, guide strips secured by tongue;
and groove connections to the inner adjacent ends of the stiilfeners and to the adjacent end of the body member, said strips being spaced apart, a handle inserted between the guide strips and engaging the body member by a tongue and groove connection, the strips being extended beyond the stiffener members, and a bolt passed transversely through the extensions and through the handle for locking the latter to the strips. f r
3. A bakers peel comprising a bodymem- I ber or peel proper, stifi'ener corner pieces at the inner terminal of said body member, guide-strips disposed at the inner adjacent ends of the corner pieces and secured there-v to and to the body member and spaced apart and extending beyond the corner pieces, a handle inserted between the strips, a securing bolt passed transversely through the strips and through the handle, a terminal link hinged to one end of the bolt, the outer face of one of the guide strips being provided with a groove or recess for receiving the link when out of commission.
4:. A bakers peel comprisinga body member or peel proper provided with a transverse groove at its inner terminal, corner pieces provided with tongues received by said groove, the inner adjacent ends of the corner pieces being provided with tongues,
the corner pieces, and provided with basal tongues entering the transverse terminal groove of the body member, a handle inserted between the guide strips and terminating in a basal tongue removably received the transverse groove of the body member, a securing bolt passed transversely through the guide strips and handle, a link hinged to one end of the bolt, the outer face of one of the guide strips being recessed to receive the link when the latter is out of commission, the grain of the corner pieces being transverse to the direction of the grain of the body member, and transverse to the general direction of the handle.
5. A peel comprising a body portion having the grain of the wood disposed in one direction, a handle leading centrally from the body portion, and corner pieces secured to the body portion on opposite sides of the handle, the grain of the corner pieces being transverse to the direction of the grain in the body of the peel.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
