misses..
To @ZZ 'whom it may concern:
Re it known Athat l, ,losnrn E. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident oi the borough ota Manhattan, city, county, and'State ot New York, have invented certain new and useful llmprovernents in Crushing and Pulverizing Machines, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to the typev of crushing and pulverizing mechanism in which a gyratory shaft is journaleel at its lower entremity in an eccentric bearing'seated in a rotatable sleeve, Vas in my concurrent applications No. 38'Z',067, tiled August 5th, 1907 and No. 681,6ll, led March 4th 1912.
My present improvements 'concern the means employed for insuring the rotation of the eccentric bearing with the sleeve in which it is seated in such manner as to allow the eccentric hearing to adapt itself to the inclination of 'the gyratory shaft,-the object being to obviate as far as possible wear between the contacting surfaces of the interlocking parts lov which the eccentric bearing and rotatable sleeve are coupled together, as hereinafter fully set forth.
inthe accompanying drawings, Figure l.
Y is a central vertical sectional elevation of the lower portion of a gyratorv Crusher ot the type to which my invention is applicable; Fig. 2, is a horizontal section takenupon plane of line 22 Fig. l; Fig. 3. shows the several details of the coupling pin and slot upon a larger scale. Fig. 4, shows an alternative or modiied'construction of interlocking parts.
ling
ln general constructionand operation the apparatus is essentially the same as heretotore hewn and used, A, representing the gyratory shaft upon the upper part of which the usual truncated conical crusher head is supported in an oppositely inclined conical crushing chamber.
The lower portion of the gvratoryshaft Specification of Letters Patent.
application filed rlnne 12, 1912.
Serial No. '203,1'Z.
gyratory'shaft S, it is necessarr to couple the eccentric 'nearing B, and the sleeve S, together by means which will allow the conven peripheral surface oi' the eccentric bearing B,"to rock laterally on the concave seat s, of the sleeve S, and in order to accomplish this in a simple and eii'ective man ner l provide on one part a coupling pin o, the protruding elongated head c', ol which engages with afside wall of a longitudinal recess a, in theother part.
Putented Nov. 3, llldeo By preference riforma the longitudinal recess r, in the sleeve S, opening into the concave e, and mount the shaulr oli the pin c, in a socket 52, formed for its reception in the eccentric: bearingV B, as shown in the accompanying drawings, although it is obvious that the alternative arrangement may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in this respect. That is to suyas an equivalent me chanical expedient the longitudinal recess e, may be formed in .the eccentricbearing B, and the coupling pin e, be mounted in the sleeve if desired with like result as shown in Fig. 4. The important feature in this connection is the formation oli the coupling pin c, with an elongate head c', aording an extensive bearing surface for contact with a side of' the longitudinal slot, thereby equalizing and distributing the wear, and lengthening the life and utility of the bearing.. ln other words l counteract the tendency of the head of the coupling pin to augment frictional resistance, and even eventually render the ball' and socket joint inoperative, by wearing a seat for itself in the opposed wall surface of the longitudinal coupling slot.
What lr claim as my invention and desire to secure bv Letters l'atent is,
l. ln a crushing mechanism of the character designated, the combination of a gyratory shaft, means Vfor supporting the same,
van eccentric bearing for the lower portion of said shaft, said eccentric bearing consistingof a plurality of members, one member having a ,convex peripheralsurface, another of said members being. a rotatable eccentric sleeve Vformed with a concavity in which said first named member is seated.
and also formed with a longitudinal recess in said concave seat, a coupling pin movable in a socket formed for its reception 1n said first named member, said pin being formed with a head protruding into the longitudinal recess in the sleeve, said head having a bear,- ing surface contacting with the side thereof to prevent said pin from turning in said recess, Awhereby the positive rotation of the first named member with the sleeve is insured While permitting the bearing t0 adaptL itself axially to-the inclination of the shaft, and means for rotating said sleeve.
2. In crushing mechanism of the character designated, the combination of a gyratory shaft` means for supporting the same, an eccentric bearing for the lowerrportion of said shaft in which said shaft is movable, said eccentric bearing consisting of a plurality of members one member having a con.- vex peripheral surface, a rotatable eccentric sleeve formed 'with a concavity inv' which said first named member is seated and also formed with a longitudinal recess in said concave seat, said recess having an elongate Hat bearin surface parallel to the longitudinal axis of the first named member, a coupling pin movable in a socket formed for its reception in said first named member, said pin being formed with an elongate head protruding into said longitudinal recess in the sleeve and having an extensive flat bearing surface for contacting with the bearing surface ofY the longitudinal recess in the` sleeve, whereby the first named member is permltteo. to adapt itself axially to the in clination uf the shaft while rotating positively with the sleeve, and means for rotating said sleeve. l
-3. In crushing mechanism of the character designated, the combination of a gyratory shaft, means `for supporting the same, an eccentric bearing for the lower portion of said'shaft in which Vsaid shaft is movable named member to adapt itself to the axial inclination of the gyratory shaft, said means consisting of a coupling pin mounted on one member and formed with a non-rotative head protruding into -a longitudinal recess in the other member and having an extensive bearing surface contacting with the longitudinal bearin surface of the recess.
