'or discoveredcertain new1 and useful Improvementsin Crushing-Mills, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein tothe accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to that class of crushing mills employing rotar beaters or grates 0r crushing surfaces in the chambers of the mills; In crushing mills of the .class referred to the'most eiicient .operation is se- 1 cured-*by such an adjustment `rof the beaters or hammersv'as will enable them to run closely adjacent to the grates or crushing surfaces. Owing, however, to the wear of the crushing parts, and more particularly to the Wear on the rotary beaters or hammers, it is very desirable that a convenient radial adjustment of the working positions of the rotary beaters or hammers should be provided for, to compensate for wear, and
`the present invention has for its object to supply this desideratum.
In carrying the present invention into effect the pivot-bars, on which the rotary beaters or hammers are mounted,l are so constructed with reference to the rotary carrier for the beaters or hammers thata radial adjustment of the working positions-of the said beaters or hammers ma be effected by a longitudinal adjustment o the said pivotbars, this result being preferably effected by providing the said pivot-bars with inclined portions which bear against inclined walls of radial slots formed in flanges on the rotary carrier; and thus by adjusting the pivot-bars longitudinally an in or out radial adjustment ofthe working positions of the otary beaters or hammers may be provided or. v `In the accompanying drawingFigure. 1
is a diametric sectional elevation of a r0- tary carrier embodying the present invention, and showingalso the rotary beaters or hammers pivotally connected with said carrier. -Fi-g. 2 is an end view of the same.
v i' Fig. 3 -is a view similarto Fig. .1 but show- "i ing a slightly different former the invenf tion from that illustrated in Fig., l.
1 AReferring' to the drawing, 12 denotesa mill shaft and '13 a rotary vcarrier Speemcatieu et Let-ters raient.
beaters or hammers 1 l splined or otherwise suitably secured to said shaft, said carrier comprising flanges l14 provided with radial slots 15. Fitting in the slots 15, and capable of endwise sliding movements therein, are the pivot-bars 16 Patenteasept. 2, 191s. puc-summed July a, 191e. serial N0. 778,209, A
which 4connect the rotary beaters or hammers 17 with the said rotary carrier. Said p1vot-bazs 16 are provided with inclined surfaces 18 fitti A against corresponding bearing. surfaces a orded by the outer walls of the radial slots 15. The hub portion of the" carrier 13 is provided with anexternal .screw-threaded part on which is mounted a nut 19 having a vertical flange engaging notches 20 (in the construction shown in Fig. 1) inthe pivot-bars 16, so that bytunni'ng the said nut the said pivot-bars may be simultaneously adjusted endwise in either direction for the purpose of varying the radial working ositions of thel said The adjusting nut 18 is maintained in any desired position by means of` a set-screw 21 provided with a lock-nut 22. The pivot-bars 16 are received loosely in openings 23 in the shank perf tions of the beaters or hammers 18.
From the foregoing it will be understood that a radial adjustment of the working positions of the rotary beaters or hammers may be conveniently and quickly eiiected simply by turning the nut 19. 1
Fig. 3 both In the construction shown inl ends of the hub portion of the rotary carrier 13 are screw-threaded for the reception of two adjusting nuts 19 which abut against the ends of the pivot-bars 16 and are thus y adapted .to effectl simultaneous longitudinal adjustments of the pivot bars in either di; rection by slackening one of said nuts away from the ends of said bars and then screwing up ,thev other nut, these nuts 19 being maintained in any desired position of adjustment by the set-screws 21 and locknuts 22, as in the' construction rst described'. V I n Having thus described my invention I clatim and desire to secure by lLetters Pat'- en 1. In a crushing inill,l the combination*v with a rotary carrier -having end flanges and an intermediate flange all provided with ra-V dial slots, of rotary" beaters or hammers, longitudinally adjustable pivot-bars provided with a plurality-of inclines arranged to bear 'against-the 'outer walls of said slots-,-
' radial slots, of rotary beaters or hammers,
longitudinally adjustable pivot-bars provided With inclines arranged to bear against the outer walls of said slots, said pivot-bars servingv to connect said beaters or hammers with said carrier, and one or .more nuts mounted on said carrier, for adjusting said pivot-bars longitudinally to vary the radial Working positions of said beaters.-
3. Ina crushing mill, the combination with a rotary carrier having end flanges and an intermediate flange all provided with radial slots, of rotary beaters or hammers, longitudinally .adjustable pivot-bars providedI with 'molines arranged to bear against the outer walls of said slots, said pivot-bars serving to connect said beaters or hammers with said carriers, one or more nuts mounted on said carrier, for adjusting said pivot-bars longitudinally to varythe radial working positions of said beaters, and means-for locking said nut or nuts against rotation when adjusted.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
