at Wellesley, in the county of Norfolkand State of'h/Iassachusetts,` have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvelowing isa specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to that class of crushing mills employing rotary beaters or hammers which cooperate with grates or crushing surfaces in the chambers of the mills. vIn crushing mills of the class referred to `most eiiicient operation is secured by such an adjustment of the beaters or hammers as will enable them to run closely adjacent to the grates or crushing surfaces. Owing, however, to the wear of the crushing parts, and more particularly to the wear on the rotary beaters or hammers, it is very y desirable that a convenient radial adjust-l ment of the working positions of the rotary beaters or hammers should be provided for, to compensate for wear, and the present invention has for sideratum. p
In carrying the present invention into effect the rotary carrier preferably `comprises a plurality of flanged collars spiined to a rotary shaft, and attached to the iianges of these collars are disks having openings cut in such a manner as to provide internal gears. Fitting the said internal gears are toothed bushings or pinions in which are eccentrically mounted pivot-bars connecting the rotary. beaters `or hammers with the rotary carrier. Said toothed bushings or pinions are attached to said "pivot-bars in any suitable manner,`as by being pinned thereto.
` The toothed bushings or pinions at the ends of said pivot-barsmesh with a gear ring mounted on the outer collar on therotary shaft, and Said end bushings or pinions are notched or circumferentially grooved for the reception of a flange on a nut4 having a screw-threaded connection with Said outer collar, so that by turning said nut the toothed bushings or pinions attached to the pivot-bars,- and `serving as eccentric `supports for said bars, may be withdrawn from engagement with the* gearopenings in the disks. Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a rotary crushing mill shaft to which are splined a series of collars 13 and 14 provided with flanges 15. Thus the said toothedbushings or pinions serve as eccentric supports for Said pivotvbar-s. `The outerbushings or `pinions 20 have, integral therewith but separated therefrom, flanges` 22 between which and the bodies of said bushings or pinions are notches or lcircumferential grooves 23 engaged .by a flange 24: on a nut 25 threaded to the outer collarlf. By screwing the said nut to the left, Fig.` 1, the toothed bushings or pinions 2() and 21 may be Withdrawn Jfrom engagement with the rings 16, and
`when thus withdrawn the connected bushings or pinions and the pivot-bars 19 attached thereto may be partially rotated by applyinga wrench to squared portions 26 at the outerfends of said bushings yor pinions. Preferably the outer' eccentric toothed bushings or pinions 20 allk mesh with a gear ring 29 rotatably mounted on the flange 16 of the outer collar 13, so that ii a wrench be applied to the squared portion 26 of one of the outer bushings or pinions 20, to partially rotate the same, all oi' the other bushings or pinions will be simultaneously rotated.
Owing to the fact that the pivot-bars 19 are eccentric to the bushings or pinions 20 and 2l partial rotation of these parts will eiiect a radial adjustment of the said pivotbars and also of the hammers or beaters 18 lpivoted thereon, and owing to the gear connections of the bushings 20, through the gear ring 29, the partial turning of one set of bushings or pinions 20 and 21 will effect a simultaneous partial rotation of the other sets, to adjust all of the pivot-bars at the same time. When such adjustment vhas been effected the nut 25 maybe screwed back to its first position, thus again bringing the toothed-bushings or pinions 2O and 21 into locking engagement with the disks 16. Accidental displacement of the nut 25, afterit has been properly adjusted, will be prevented by a set-screw 27 provided with a lock-nut 28.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the invention provides a convenient construction whereby the radial working positions of the rotary hammers or beaters x18 may be varied to compensate for wear and to bring them into any desired adjustment relative to the bars or crushing plates in the chamber ofthe mill. l
The invention is not to be understood as being limitedl to' the exact details of construction herein shown and described, as
such details may be varied without departing from the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. In a crushing mill, the combination with a rotary carrier comprising disks, of rotary beaters or hammers, pivot-bnis connecting said beaters or hammers with said carrier, bushings in said disks in which said pivot-bars are eccentrically mounted,
so that said bushings serveas eccentric supports for said bars, means whereby all oi' said bushings may be partially rotated simultaneously for the purpose of varying the radial working positions of said beaters or hammers, and means for locking said bushings against. rotation after adjustment.
2. In a crushing mill', the combination with a rotary carrier comprising disks 'provided withl internal gear openings, of rotary beaters or hammers, pivot-bars connecting said beaters or hammers with said carrier, toothed eccentric supports for said pivot-bars and to which the latter are .at-
