To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JEAN M. AHRANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the county of Hillsboro and State of Florida, have invented certain new an useful Improvements in Awnings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in awnings, the object of the invention is the provision of an awning constructed in two separate parts for the upper and lower window sashes and which are adapted to be raised or lowered simultaneously.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a window awning of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and opera-1 tion.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window awning constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation; Fig. 3 is a side elevation at one end of the supporting roller.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a window casing to whic my improved awning is to be applied, the same being supported upon which is arranged midway between the upper and lower sides of the window and having its ends mounted within suitable outstanding bearing plates 3, said plates having base portions t formed integral therewith and which are adapted to be secured in any suitable manner to the side of the window casing at a central point. The awning which is preferably constructed of canvas or other material suitable for the purpose, is secured at its central portion, as shown at 5, to the roller 2, while the thereof is secured to the transverse medial portion 6 of the U-shaped supporting bar 7 the ends of which are inturned and rotatably mounted within the eyes 8 secured to the the roller 2 lower end lower end of the window sill at each side thereof.

The upper end of the awning is provided with a stay rod 9', at the central portion of which is formed an eye 10 to which is secured the cord 11, said cord being secured a at its lower end. and rotatably mounted upon the spool member 12, said spool member belng mounted upon and secured at one end of the roller 2. Mounted upon the roller 2 adjacent the spool 12 is a second spool 13 upon which is mounted the operating cord 14, the lower end of said actuating cord be mg removably secured to the rope engaging member 15 which is mounted upon the window casing adjacent the lower end thereof. The cord 11 extends upwardly over the corner pulley 16, thence inwardly in parallel relation with the upper end of the window casing, and over he central pulley 17, thence downwardly and secured to the eye 10.

From the above it will be readily apparent that the operation of my improved window awning is as follows :As illustrated in Fig. 1, the awning is in its lowered position, the operating cord 14 being wound upon the spool 13. In order to lower the upper awning and raise the lower awning, the operating cord l l is pulled downwardly rotating the roller 2 and winding each end of the awning thereon. From this it will be seen that the cord 11 which is wound upon the spool 12 will be unwound, permitting the upper portion of the awning to wind upon the roller. From this it will be seen that when it is desired to lower the lower portion of the awning and raise the upper portion, the operating cord ll which has been previously secured to the member 15, is released, the weight of the frame 7, pulling downwardly upon the lower portion of the awning, which will rotate the roller 2, winding the cord 11 upon the spool 12 and pulling upwardly upon the upper portion of the awning. From this it will be seen that I have provided a simple and durable awning which can be readily disposed in an operative or an inoperative position, which at the same time is simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details a to the lower end of the awning, a stay rod mounted in the upper end of the awning, a cord having its upper end connected with the stay rod and its lower-end mounted on one of said spool portions, an operating signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
