Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
Application filed June 5,1914. Serial No. 843,207.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, PHILIP KRUG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hoisington, in the county of Barton and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. j
This invention relates to plows: and it consists of certain clamping devices for se curing the plow share in place, as hereinafter fully described and claimed, and permitting it to be-readily removed and replaced.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a plow, showing the location of the novel clamping devices. Fig. 2 is a bottom or rear view of portions of the mold board and a plow share, showing the novel clamping devices, and drawn to a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a detail side view of the middle clamping device which draws the plow share upwardly against the mold board. Fig. 4 is a similar side view but shows one of the end clamping devices which draws the plow point laterally against the bottom plate.
The plow is provided with a plow share 2, a mold board 3, and a supporting standard 4, of any approved form and construction. A frog or bottom plate 5 is provided and is secured to the mold board by bolts 6 so that it overlaps the rear side of the plow share. The plate 5 forms an ofiset extension of the bottom part of the mold board, which permits the front faces of the mold board and the plow share to be substantially flush with each other where they meet. The plow share preferably has a laterally projecting landside or lug 7, which has a pin 8 projecting from it. The frog or bottom plate 5 has a similar landside or lug 9 which abuts against the lug 7 and which has a slot 10 which slips over thepin 8. The landside or lug 9 receives the end thrust of the plow share.
Three clamping devices are provided for connecting the plow share to the bottom plate and mold board, and these clamping devices are substantially all alike with the exception that the middle clamping device has a thrust plate of a little different form from the others, as will be more fully described hereinafter. When three clamping devices are provided, an auxiliary frog or bottom plate 12 is preferably secured to the mold boardby a bolt 14, and which overlaps the plow share in a similar manner to the frog or bottom plate 5. This frog or bottom plate 12 is for the attachment of the clamping device which is farthest from the thrust lug 9, and it extends higher up the mold board than the plate 5. A single frog or bottom plate may however be used.
The plow share 2 has bearing blocks 15 which are riveted to it, and which project downwardly from its rear side, and the bottom plates 5 and 12 have slots 16 which straddle the blocks 15 and which are inclined atan angle to the vertical to correspond to the inclination of the thrust lug 9.
Each clamping device is provided with a clamping plate 18, which has a large rectangular hole 19 in one end portion which slipsover one of the bearing blocks, and a smaller square hole at its other end portion which fits loosely over the nut of one of the fasteningbolts 6, and locks the nut to the bolt. These clamping plates are arranged at an acute angle to the bottom edge of the plow share.
Each clamping device has a locking cam 21 provided with a hand lever 22 for operating it, and the locking cam has a pivot pin 23 on one side which rocks in a hole in the bearing block pertaining to it. A key or projection 24 is formed on the outer end portion of the pivot pin which projects from the bearing block, and the bearing block has a key slot 25 at one side of its hole. The key 24 normally prevents the pin from sliding out of the hole in the block, but the cam can be detached from the block, when desired, by turning it around until the key is in line with the key-way.
Each clamping plate has a hardened steel plate 26 welded to it, for the cam to bear on, and the middle clamping plate has a projecting lug 27, so that its cam may draw the plow share upwardly against the bottom edge of the mold board. The cams of the other. two clamping plates are arranged to draw the plow share laterally against the bottom plate or' plates. Each clamping plate has also a spring fastening device 29 for its cam lever to engage with, but any other approved means may be used to prevent the accidental outward movement of the cam lever which would unlock or unolamp the plow share. The levers are moved outwardly by hand to release the plow share,
and provided with a slot;v of a plow share provided with a projecting bearing block which projects through the said slot, a clamping plate having a hole which slips over the bearing block, and a locking. cam pivoted to the bearing block and engaging with the said clamping plate.
2. The combination, with a mold board, and a frog or bottom plate secured-thereto and provided with an inclined thrust lug and an inclined slot; of a plow share provided with a lug which bears on the thrust lugIv and having a projecting bearing block which projects through the said slot, a clamping plate having a hole which slips over the'bearing block, and a locking cam pivoted. to the bearing block and engaging with the said clamping plate.
3.-- The con1bination, witl1 a mold board, and a frog or bottom plate secured thereto and providedfWith a slot; of a plow share having a projecting bearing block which projects through the said slot, said bearing block having a bearing hole provided with a rey slot on one side, a clamping plate having. a hole which slipsover the bearing block, and a locking cam having a pin which is pivoted in the hole in the bearing block and providedwith aprojecting key on its free end portion which normally holds it in engagement with the block.
A The combination, with a mold board,
'anda frog or bottom plate secured thereto and provided with slots; of a plow share provided with projecting bearing blocks which project through the said slots, a clamping plate having holes which slip over the bearing blocks, and locking cams pivoted to the bearing blocks and engaging with the clamping plate and operating to draw the plow share laterally against the frog or bottom edge of the mold board.
5. The combination, with a mold board having an offset plate at its bottom edge, saidplate being provided with a slot or opening, of a plow share arranged against figp ies oi" this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressingt the Commissioner of Eatents, Washington, D. Q.
