PENDANT.
Application filed July 18,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, HENRY D. MIX, a citizenof the United States, and resident of the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pendants, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relat s to pendants and has for its object to provide a pendant constructed in the form of a circle having a plurality of arms extending therefrom forming a cross and to provide a hollow portion in the rear face of the circle in which is mounted a hinged figure plate and a separate closure plate hinged to one of the arms of the cross to close this central hollow portion and cover the plate within.
lVith these and oth r objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure lis a front elevation of the pendant made into the form of a cross showing the filledin portion between the arms. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rear of the pendant showing the filled-in portion between the arms of the cross as forming a circle also showing the figure plate and closure hinged one above the other. Fig. 3- is a rear view in perspective showing the back plate of the pendant broken away to show the interior thereof and show that portion on which the closure is hinged. Fig. l is a sectional side elevation of the upper port-ion of the pendant showing the relative positions of the hinge for the closure and the hinge for the figure plate one above the other. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 55 of Fig. 3 looking into the upper arm of the cross and showing the joint of the closure mounted between the box shaped sides of the upper arm. Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the closure and the tubular joint member thereon. Fig. 7 is an enlarged sectional edge elevation of the closure. 8 is a perspective view of the ring in which the figure plate hinged and against which the closure rests when in closed position. Fig. 9 is a detail perspective view of the figure plate. Fig.

10- is an enlarged sectional edge elevation of the figure plate.
Referring to the drawings 15 designates the vertical standard portion of the cross shaped pendant and 16 designates the transverse arms of the same. This pendant is struck or drawn up from sheet metal into a box or hollow form as shown in Fig. 3 and i provided with a segmental hollow portion 18 between each of the arms which with the arms serve to complete a circle, see Fig. 2. This hollow box formation is provided with a back plate 17 secured by solder or other suitable means around the edge of the whole device. These segmental portions 18 perform a double function, which is that of providing front faces on which a halo may be represented between the arms ofthe cross and they also assist in forming an annular receptacle in the rear of the device for the reception of the figure plate. The back plate or rear wall 17 of the cross is provided with a circular opening 20 which communicates with the ring 21 that is fixed therein by being soldered to one of the inner walls of the device, the lower edge of the ring is notched as at 22 to receive the latch or catch 23 of the closure 24 and the upper portion of this ring has an opening and is provided with tubular sections 25 and 26 on either side of the openings through which is passed the pivot pin 27 which engages the hinge portion 29 of the figure plate 28 to'hinge the same to this ring.
It is found in practice advantageous from a standpoint of practical construction, to hinge the closure plate above the scapula-r plate hinge 29, see Fig. 4 and pass the pin 30 on which the closure is pivoted through the side walls 31 of the upper arm of the cross as best shown in Fig. 3. This closure 24; is provided with a neck portion 32, see Fig. 5, and has a short length of tube 33 secured to the underside thereof a short distance inward from its extremity 34 through which the thus shaped in the form of a cross is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and my particular means of pivotingthe figure plate and the closure in the rear of the 5 pendant one ahane the other renders the same complete and entirely practical for the purpose for which it is designed.
I claim: 1. A pendant having a central recessed 10 portion With a plurality of extending arms, a plate pivoted in said recessed portion and a closure having an extending portion pivoted in one of said arms.
A pendant comprising a body portion 15 having a recess therein, a ring mounted in lVitnesses:
